First off, I’m 99% sure I spelled that name incorrectly. I’m also only 50% sure this is the right place to discuss this. (EDIT: Corrected the spelling on the title)
Anyway, the legendary Mordrem Commander shown on Points of Interest last week looks eerily similar to Elesh Norn from Magic: the Gathering, even though their demeanor and execution styles are vastly different. Though Elesh is certainly a “big cheater-pants” herself. Picture for reference
Not that Phyrexia is invading Tyria or anything, nor that the design is plagiarized. In fact, if it’s a deliberate shout-out, I think that’s awesome. I just had to post the thought somewhere.

I’d call it a coincidence, but I 100% agree with your sentiment of resemblance. We will know it was deliberate if this character starts taking sylvari prisoners and stitching them together while spouting righteous sounding quasi-religious nonsense about unity. Gotta love those white-magic villains.
I swear, if I ever hear her say “All Will Be One,” I’m going to Doom Blade her so hard.
If you are referring to the commander champ at the (Blighted/Blighting) Tree in the last beta, the name was Diarmid.
But I do see the resemblance there and Arenanet is not at all opposed to putting references to pop culture and other things in the game.
Thanks for the assist, Maetnor. Topic title edited so I feel less silly.
