Has anyone noticed this on the Ancient Mursaat Token (from the Laurel Vendor):

“Some warn that the Mursaat will return to agonize the people of Tyria once more.”

Is arena net teasing us? Or are they really returning? ^^

They’re teasing us so far. They love teasing us, and it gives them things to expand upon in the future. Heck the Tome of Rubicon was nothing special until it fit the role of the Elder Dragon prologue. I do expect something mursaat eventually, but time will only tell what kind of role they will take.

I feel kinda conflicted about that easter egg, since any news on the mursaat is good news. They have said already that they “have really cool plans for them” a long while ago, but it kinda ruins their (or at least Lazarus’) surprise return with such obvious dark foreshadowing.

They might as well put up a sign in Lion’s Arch saying: Warning! Mursaat Inbound. Do Not Touch!

I think it’s just teasing, cuz some players believe they’ll still return. :P

I think it’s a hint!

I don’t remember directly hearing or reading ANet say that the Mursaat were making a comeback, but I have heard others say that ANet did say this directly.

That “comeback” was actually just Linsey stating in 2007 that there were “cool plans.”

Note: these “cool plans” could have been intended for War in Kryta, as the prelude to it (Zinn’s golems) which screamed (to me at least) Lazarus’ dealings occurred after the fact, and the WiK content included 7 mursaat, with a brand new kind of jade construct.

I think it’s possible that they could make a return. Didn’t Saul D’Alessio require help from the Mursaat to retake Kryta from the Charr? Kryta being the human home land now, the Unseen ones may very well make a return. I don’t think we exterminated them in the first game? We killed a few but not all of them and they do think they’re Gods so why not? It’s been 250 years, they could have rebuilt? We have a condition called Agony? Perhaps infusions and ascended armour will play a role in this?? Be interesting to see how those wasp people look after all this time.

Or a big button … Triggers mursaat apocalypse. DO NOT TOUCH.

I don’t think it’s ever stated that they actually think they’re gods…
They simply used Saul to get the humans of Kryta to think that they were gods. Otherwise they would have had a very hard time rounding up sacrifices for the bloodstone..
Pretty sure they know they aren’t gods, they’re just very intelligent and malicious.

You do need to check out the “Saul’s Story” details in the first game.

The thing is, Saul somehow or another happened upon the Mursaat’s hiding place while down and out, and came back preaching about them to Kryta. He gathered enough people around him who believed his message, but he possibly was genuinely interested in the well-being of Kryta.

We will never really know what his long-term plans were because the charr invaded and he was lost while fighting them. What happened was that he was overtaken during a combat with the charr and the Mursaat sent a few of their number to protect him. For some reason. when they left, they took him with them and left a few others in charge of the fledgling White Mantle.

The Mursaat weren’t interested in saving Kryta. They were interested, apparently, solely in Saul and to a lesser extent his followers. We know later they had an extreme interest in keeping the Door of Komalie shut tight and the White Mantle was a useful tool to work with it.

No, I’m pretty sure they know their limitations. I’m also sure they’re not entirely malicious, they just perform a very dirty task to keep the Door of Komalie shut. The act is completely unacceptable to us, since it is sacrifice . . .

But it brings to question how in the heck they were keeping it closed before that sacrificing Chosen was the preferable alternative?

No, I’d say they’re malicious. They’re explicitly stated to have betrayed the other races and fled the world during the last ED rise when their magic was effective in fighting the Elder Dragons.

Both then and during GW1, what they did was only to save their own hides.

They’re malicious, but they’re not proactively asserting themselves in others’ lives. Instead, they’ll leave everyone else high and dry and kill whomever they need to remain safe – be it an entire race called the Seers or thousands within two years called Chosen.

I was gonna say, they were willing to commit genocide without a second thought. I understand that this isn’t as big of an evil in Tyria as it is on planet earth, but it is still pretty much up there. They were willing to allow the destruction of 4 races of living beings to save their own hides. A group that wasn’t malicious might spread their knowledge of phasing out of Tyria on to the other 4 races so that together they may all survive another ED rising, instead they took what they knew and ran.

We never did find out what the mursaat did with Saul did we? I wonder if they will ever get around to telling us his ultimate fate, though I’m wondering if they needed him for something else. Because if he outlived his usefulness, the mursaat would have killed him then and there.

My mistake “The humans of Kryta, under the rule of the White Mantle, believed the mursaat were gods.” I got it a bit mixed up haha apologies all.

@Erukk I would like to find out what happened to Saul also.
