i never played the first Guild Wars but i did alot of background and “reality” check on the storyline and everything befor playing Guild Wars 2.
and i am pretty sure the Mursaat will apear in this game too. But i tend to believe the Asura’s have some hints relating to the Mursaat’s i have yet to verify the “conspiricy craze” around that so i don’t know and asking about this really, i never saw anything involving the White Mantle within Guild Wars 2 except for knowing they have somthing to do with attacks on Queen Jannah but nothing else.
But the main question here is how do you think the Mursaat will be involved in the game? except for with the White Mantles.
and also the issue around relation to the Asura and Mursaat thing, if anyone has info on that?
Right now, no mursaat, as for expansions, that remains to be seen, if they play a role, it’ll be in the Ring of Fire for certain, or northern Maguuma area
they are in the game near the end…. as for the asura mursaat thing no one outside of anet knows.
They are? I’ve yet to see them, and I’ve explored a rather large portion of the map. ~85%?
And beaten the game
i believe that they will be controlled by one of the dragons
Lazarus the Dire was the only Mursaat to survive in Guild Wars 1, he vowed vengeance against “countless generations” of your hero and companions’ race that helped destroy the Mursaat. Fled to isle of Janthir which is now labeled on the map, so I would assume Mursaat are going to have a pretty big part in Guild Wars2 in a future expansion. Also if you have beat the last dungeon you will get a couple other easter eggs about the Mursaat.

I didn’t want to spoil for anyone but
n the last dungeon's explorable there is a mursaat path that deals with them.

Since the Titans’ release, at least eight Mursaat are known to have survived, and seven of them have continued to lead the White Mantle until the end of the Krytan civil war. Although these seven are known to have been killed off, Lazarus’ fate, and if anymore Mursaat survived, is still unknown.

I think everyone can agree White Mantle are still around, but what I was stating and this thread is the Mursaat…..it’s a race. They are different things.

Well the White Mantle are pretty closely tied to the Mursaat since the White Mantle worshipped them. I would expect that if any are still around there is a good chance they are pulling the White Mantle’s strings. They could easily be hiding. They werent know as the Unseen for no reason.

I wouldnt leap to that conclusion. If there are any Mursaat left they likely would want power taken subtly rather than risk another revolt. Furthermore, the queen is protected by the Shining Blade who have a long history fighting both the Mursaat and White Mantle.

i think in the situation they are in it seems the Mursaat in the situation they endded up would switch to another tactic rather then use humans as puppets.
Also, it would seem they would end up in a collective hate for the human race and use an alterntive.
It seems more logical to me for some reason that theres an outer relation to Asura and Mursaat (is it wierd that you get Asura inside Mursaat and Rata Sum can spell out Mursaat? i don’t know some it seem like a well hint.) On that i think its more relevant to the Lore to see how they handle the dragons.
Plus, i want to see a Mursaat risen one time..
There is the distinct possibility that there are very few if any Mursaat left. Furthermore It seems likely that they would most likely work through proxies if they can and the White Mantle are a pre setup proxy.
As for the Dragons, I imagine that if they can they will do what they did the last time the dragons awoke (the answer to that is in an Explorable mode of Arah.)
The Mursaat are not from the Ring of Fire. They are supposedly from the Isles of Janthir, which someone mentioned, is officially labeled on our world maps. Also, there is a server named after that place. So it can be a possilbe candidate for further expanions. If so, I will be super excited. I have always wanted to go there.
Nobody knows what the Isles look like or if there are Mursaat cities there, although unlikely as I believe they were almost wiped out.
Rata Sum
or Mursaat… Tarnished dcoasr used to be Mursaat terrortory
The mursaat (lowercase ‘m’ for race names, as mandated by ArenaNet) will just do what they best do – enslave the human race and wage war with the other races. If you’ve read the post of the other lore nerds, they found out in-game that the last time the elder dragons were wreaking havoc on the continent of Tyria, 5 races joined together to defeat them.
But something happened and they failed and disbanded, eventually waging war on each other, especially the mursaat and Seer (uppercase ‘S’ for Seer race because it is not their official name [you’ll know in-game]).
Whatever happened during that time is what is driving the oldest of races the continent of Tyria have known. The Forgotten, the Seer, the mursaat, the jotun, and another one I can’t remember. The Forgotten and the Seer are friendly to humans, while the mursaat and jotun are not.

It would be fun to play as a mursaat, interesting storyline where we are against the heroes of tyria. We can cast fire upon the world

Spectral Aganony=N1 skill=Insta Kill :p
The mursaat could have given up on humans. Seriously, I don’t imagine them being inactive for 250 years, and humans aren’t the center of the world. They could have enslaved any other unknown race.

Considering there probably arent many of them left it could be that the last ones are after revenge against the humans. And do remember that the humans were the center of the world for a long time and still have major territorial holdings outside of Tyria.
I dont think the mursaat have the resources or numbers at this point to really start from scratch particularly with the EDs on the move.
I want them to be behind Cantha’s xenophobia now. A puppet emperor serving the last mursaat, a relic of the ancient times. Now steepling fingers in evil manner lol

jotuns and norns have the same roots? And possibly of Giganticus Lupicus? Or I misunderstood you there?
Currently, the only information about the origin of the norns came from the kodans:
In ancient times, the kodan once spread across the land, only hindered by the sea and had brought balance to the spirits that they had encountered. However, during an event now referred to as the great storm, a tribe of kodan without a Voice had sought out food and began to travel south and never returned. It is speculated by scholars and Voices that the norn are descended from this tribe, and if so that the norn are spiritual failures and may soon follow the fate of the dwarves.
Errr, the mursaat didn’t enslave humans for their own gain, really.
They just needed to use the humans for sacrifices on the bloodstones to hold the door of Komalie, to stop the titans. Or did you all forget what the Lich did?
So, while they didn’t much care for the new races, they were still fighting the good fight. The enemy of your enemy isn’t always your friend, after all.
There’s a few things hinting about the presence of Mursaat in GW2.
In the Vizier’s Tower jumping puzzle, you can find a statue of a Mursaat.
When you get your celebration party in Fort Trinity at the end of your personal story, chatting to the named Asuran Priory scholar (can’t remember her name, sorry) drops some pretty heavy hints about future plans for the Mursaat.
And finally, on the GW2 wiki, it says this on the Mursaat page:
“ArenaNet has “some really cool plans” for the mursaat in Guild Wars 2."
That’s a cited quote from a developer. Personally I can’t wait, as even though they were evil SoBs in the first game, the realisation that I’d helped the Lich by killing Mursaat in Prophecies was one of the best things about the story.
They were also much cooler as an enemy than Shiro’s Shuriken, the Margonites or Zhaitan’s Risen hordes. They had grace and style.
Oh, and if you’re reading ANet, please, please, PLEASE ensure that any future endgame content you design tries to step away from depressing, blasted landscapes. All of your end games apart from Factions have taken place in dour, miserable locations such as Ring of Fire, Realm of Torment and Risen Orr. Can we get something with lush vegetation and pristine, gorgeous architecture next?
A Mursaat expansion would seem to be a great opportunity to explore something like this.
Mind you, while Factions somewhat struck away from this format, it was let down by the convoluted map design of Kaineng City and the apocalyptic focus being shifted to Shiro’s minions rather than the landscape.
You have to remember Guild Wars: Beyond, which consist series of storylines and events in Guild Wars that helps set the stage for Guild Wars 2. Hearts of the North, Winds of Change, and “War in Kryta”. War in Kryta, was a HUGE sign and build up (set the stage for gw2) for Mursaat in Guild Wars 2. It also got alot of the Human orders, and races working together for one common goal.
The biggest clue I saw were
That Lazarus the Dire the only “known” mursaat to survive War in Kryta, and one of the 3 Mursaat high powers that came to Saul’s aid. The rest the mursaat were killed off during WiK. You can look him up for more lore, I don’t want to copy and paste the whole article from the wiki. He fled to go into recovery, but not before vowing vengeance against “countless generations”.
Also Isle of Janthir is now labeled on the map.
-“Janthir is the desolate-looking island north of Kryta where Saul D’Alessio claimed the Eye of Janthir for the White Mantle to perform the Test of the Chosen. The inhabitants of the island are said to have the gift of True Sight, the ability to see someone for who they really are.”-

You have a little more to do, it seems
I haven’t played through Arah yet so I don’t know what ever might be revealed there but as far as I know people are giving the mursaat a bad rep.
The mursaat were never inherently evil, they didn’t “enslave” humans at all. The only bad thing they did was kill a couple of humans, but if you look at it from a grander scope, they did it to save their entire race and with it all the races of Tyria. You see, if the entirety of the titan horde were to be unleashed upon Tyria, all of your precious humans, and dwarves, charr, norn, grawl, tengu and what you will, would have been massacred. The mursaat did what they did for the greater good. They guarded the Door of Komalie with their lives, they carried that burden. Show some respect.
From what Ive heard from people who have done the Arah dungeon The Mursaat were once allies with the Dwarves, Jotun, Seers, and Forgotten, and fought the Elder dragons in the past with those races. The Mursaat fled, basically leaving the other races out to dry, using some “out of phase” magic.
What we also find out is that glint helped the other races survive by hiding them. It is possible the entirety of the Flameseeker prophecies, and the releasing of the titans, was one giant revenge plot by Glint to get back at the Mursaat.
The Mursaat only had to guard the door of Komalie because they betrayed everyone and were trying to prevent the consequences of their actions. The Mursaat’s actions were not noble they were cowardly.
the Mursaat ran, they ran from thier alliance, and then they ran from the consequences of running.
(edited by Sajuuk Khar.1509)
So the Mursaat made an alliance with other races and then fled when they needed them ?kitten that’s almost a race of Logans.
@ Topic
I do hope that they return not as an enemy, but in fact helping us. They fought the dragons once and fled, they might have some information that we don’t. Besides, fighting them again ? :P We could have two factions of Mursaat, one we fight and the other help us!
The Mursaat wore vengeance on all humanity for ages to come, furthermore, there is only one left alive that we know of.
I doubt the Mursaat will show up through anything but their ruins, and some plans the White Mantel made with Lazarus ages ago.
i remember rata sum being an anagram of “mursaat” and riven earth being an anagram of “thrive near”
rata sum also happens to be built on the ruins of an ancient civilization that no one seems to know the origions of. hmmmm…what kind of ancient peoples might have had a great city full of pyramids and such that would have been somwhere in that regeon…

Orrians are known to have had a presence in the Tarnished Coast. They are also known to be very magical.
Nothing says the civilization who built the ruins were ancient, just that the structures were run down by 1079. Given their location, this could have happened within 100 years easily.

I’ve done all of the story BUT the final mission, am I really missing THAT much info (Seer’s real identity etc.)
Thanks.

Its actually info from the explorable modes of Arah. There are four paths focusing on one of the last cycles races with dwarves being left out (theres plenty on them elsewhere). The Gods studied the old races prior to their Exodus.
Ree Soesbee: There have been a lot of questions about the Seers and their ancient war with the mursaat. Sadly, these aren’t questions we can answer at great length without giving away some very deep secrets of the Guild Wars world.
Some remnants of that civilization, and that ancient time, still remain in modern-day Tyria (both in GW and GW2), but often, those who discover such things do not realize what they have found. There are opportunities in Guild Wars 2 to uncover some of the most ancient lore, including previously untold tidbits about the Seers and their story, but such information will be very difficult to come by.
This is from a GuildMag interview/Q&A. However, it’s from 2 years ago, so who knows if it’s still accurate information.
I’m wondering about those “very deep secrets of the Guild Wars world.” There’s obviously a lot more to their story than we currently know. So I’ll be curious to see if it gets developed in GW2.
(edited by Rosen Myst.7641)
All I want to know about the mursaat is what happened to D’Alessio.
My theory is that the mursaat are interdimensional parasites. To survive in a world other than theirs, they need a suitable host from that world.
So in Tyria, they’ll get humans, and embed themselves in the back, and pop out those wing-like air-gills that they would also use to levitate, sense and gather magic from their surroundings.
That would also explain the mask, to cover the human faces, probably horribly disfigured from the pain of having their brains consumed by a Mursaat parasite.
Still, they seem to have 3 toes in their feet, so that would be an important physical difference, as many Tyrian creatures have 3 toes, like ettins, jotun, trolls, giants and asura, but humans are aliens with 5 toes.
If they are not getting ’boot’s that make it look like 3 toes and actually have 3, or they mutate over time or get surgically modified so they end up with 3 toes, then the human-host theory would break.
It could still be another host, but it would be a shame, as I really like he idea. As it would also explain why did they took D’Alession: To put parasite on his back. If that was the case, he could even be already dead as one of the many Mursaat that died at the hands of humans or titans.
Whatever the case, I just hope we get to know about their origin, and about what exactly happened to D’Alessio.
Except that mursaat predate humanity on Tyria. And those “air-gills” don’t really come off as a parasite to me. But that’s my opinion. However, I think that if the mursaat appeared differently before humans, we’d have heard of this by now (even if just in the Arah EM mursaat path).
I considered that too. The thing is, they were unseen before, as only the Ascended and Seer were able to detect them, you’ll have to ask anyone that had such power an was alive by the time.
When they appeared before humans, they already had time to get some humans to posses.
For all we know, they could have been parasitizing some other creature, like Jotun or something even older, even Seers themselves, before they switched to humans.
In any case, it’s just a theory I like. And what I really want to know is what happened to D’Alessio, and were do they come from.
Not necessarily true. They are “unseen” because of their magic. We don’t know when they developed the magic to become “out of phase” with the world (which is likely the ability behind their invisibility). Nothing says seers have the innate ability to detect them either, by the way.
As for “where they come from” – indications give, currently, that they’re native to Tyria – though they left during the last rise of the Elder Dragons and, seemingly returned shortly before being found by Saul (the Arah explorable scholar says that they returned “as the Unseen Ones”).
Im not too big on the lore but I do believe you run into the mursaat as early… as...level 15 in the Brisbain wildlands. During a dynamic event, an unseen hunter appears. He has the ability to blink, wears a ventilator, has wings, and can hover.
That is my belief anyways. They obviously look nothing like the gold armor wearing mursaat in the first game.
What you encountered was a largos.
