I’ve thought for a very long time about the storyline we’ll be getting in Heart of Thorns, involving elite specializations and the new class, Revenant. I’d like to explain a few of the ideas I’ve had, and back up other people’s theories.

Firstly, I am a believer of the “Eir will die” theory, but I also believe something else similar to it. The first connection I made was that Braham would likely inherit his ranger mother’s longbow, after finding it discarded alongside an unsettled Garm, with Eir nowhere in sight. However, I thought of this as the perfect chance for Kasmeer’s possible Chronomancer abilities to emerge. We’ve seen several times that Kasmeer possesses mesmer abilities beyond that of player-mesmers, being capable of opening and holding several portals and summoning several illusions at once. She’s also shown to love her friends and help them in every way possible.
I had originally thought that Eir’s body could be found dead, leaving Braham to mourn and pick up her bow. This would spark Kasmeer’s new-found abilities, where she opens a portal through time to where she was still alive.
This idea I then realised contradicted the idea of Braham being a Dragonhunter, as he’d be unable to take his mother’s weapon if she still used it. It would cause a paradox in the timeline. Then it hit me.
Marjory.
Marjory has already lost her sister, and she is likely to be the first true Reaper due to taking up her sister’s greatsword. What if she pushed too far? We already know she’s still injured from the fight with Scarlet, as shown by her heavy breathing at varying intervals. Kasmeer wouldn’t be able to cope with the idea of her likely-future wife dying, so she’d open the route to the past to save her. Where in the past? A few minutes before, to stop her from pushing? Or…on the Breachmaker?
That would, of course, open a whole sequence of doors where the story can go, but the other thing I want to talk about is Rytlock.

Playing through the second season of the Living World, we witness Rytlock dive into a portal to the Mists chasing after Sohothin, only to emerge in early Heart of Thorns story as the first Revenant.
Several people have discussed and hypothesised why Rytlock could be wearing a blindfold, saying he may actually be blind or he’s just channelling power easier.
In my opinion, I believe he may be blind.
Why? There may be something in the Mists that are proof of the Elder Dragons’ power.

The Six Human Gods of Tyria.

We’ve seen in lore that when mere humans gaze upon the Gods, they lose their sight. If Rytlock truly is blind, having seen the Gods in the Mists is a far-fetched but plausible theory.
But then, why are the Gods in the Mists anyway? Surely they aren’t having an apple disco with Tybalt in Stonemist Castle’s basement. Why are they there?

“We have remained strong despite the silence of the Six Gods."

They may be silenced for a reason. Perhaps, the Six haven’t abandoned you. Perhaps they met a worse fate.
We’ve seen a god die before, Abaddon in GW1.

I believe the Gods were killed by the dragons, and reside in the Mists. Whilst Rytlock was searching for Sohothin, he came across them, weakened and slain. Blinded by their brilliance even in death, he emerged from the Mists with the grim news that the humans weren’t abandoned, their saviours were murdered by the biggest threat the world has ever known.

What do you think?

After reading Hidden Arcana: Role-Playing the Revenant I gave up the idea that the Revenant may be blind.

The Whitening Theory, or why Captain Theo Ashford had to die…

I don’t like the idea that Eir is going to die, I mean c’mon why Eir when Logan and Zojja where also aboard the ship.(I know there are a lot of hints with Braham holding her bow but i don’t think it’s actually a good death for a hero at least the way the showed the ship crushing during the end of the cinematic).

I’m not really convinced by any of your points, but the weakest is the argument that the gods are dead. Consider this, to kill one god he had to be restrained and weakend. See Abaddon was bascially just a head and two hands when we fought him (he pretty much looked like Andross. Maybe the designer played a little Star Fox before? :P) and even then it took Elonas strongest heroes to defeat him. But now comes the important part, after Abaddon’s demise his energy went wild, it needed someone to contain it.

And this is were your theory falls apart, as the dragons must be on one hand strong enough to defeat a god at full strength by themselves. Most likely several, since why would the six choose to fight alone? The dragons on the other hand have never shown any signs of cooperation so far, so a 1 vs. 6 would be likely. So if the dragon is already strong enough to defeat up to 6 gods alone, he also must consume their magical energy immediately afterwards otherwise it will explode in it’s face. Don’t you think we would have noticed if one of the dragons got such an immense power boost from feeding on one up to even six gods? Now you could say maybe the five that have previously awakend all ate one god each, but that A.) let’s one god come out unharmed unless one dragon ate twice (Mordremoth can’t have possibly eaten a god as he just woke up this year in ingame terms. Again I think we would have noticed if he did) and B.) the dragon must have been strong enough to kill a full strength god in a one vs one fight and then after feeding on the god gain the strength we know he has (for example Zhaitan). Honestly I think if Zhaitan managed to kill a god he would have been waaaaay more powerful after that meal, as compared to how we fight him. Don’t get me wrong he is very strong, but I’d say a full strength god is still above a dragon in terms of power, so I would expect Zhaitan to be atleast twice as powerful as he actually was.
And last but not least, the gods actually live in the Mists, they don’t just go there after dying. We’ve actually been to their domains in GW1 and to smaller extent in GW2 during Halloween (Mad King’s labyrinth and clock tower are both in the Underworld, Grenth’s domain). The dragons on the other hand have been said to be unable to cross into the Mists (!), though they can influence them through their agents, as both Zhaitan and Jormag did.

To conclude: The way I see it the gods limited contact to the human world for 3 reasons.
1) To have less influence on human development, as past actions often had cataclysmic results (most notably Abaddon gifting magic to the races of Tyria)
2) To strengthen the barrier between Tyria and the Mists. In the Godslost Swamp the veil between the dimensions is said to be extremely weak, as the location was used frequently to cross into the Mists (mostly the Underworld). This has the unfortunate side effect that creatures from the Mists also can travel to Tyria, most notably the Shadow Behemoth. I think by limiting their communication with humans the Gods are trying to repair that damage.
3) While a full strength god is atleast on par with an elder dragon, hiding in the Mists is playing it safe. While I again think the gods would help each other in the event of a dragon attack, simply not showing up to the fight has the least risk of being consumed, which in turn would probably mean an inevitable defeat for the races of Tyria. The elder dragons are dangerous enough as they are, with the power boost from consuming a god they would probably be absolutely unstoppable.

You don’t win friends with salad! Sorry I just got caught up in the rhythm.

I also had another idea.

We know now that Sylvari were originally created to be the jungle dragon’s minions, but were spared to due being created by the Pale Tree who was taught peace by Ventari. These teachings caused the Dream to emerge, where the Pale Tree could protect the Sylvari from bad influence, unless they cut themselves off from her.

The Soundless and the Nightmare Court aren’t protected by their mother through the Dream, and are therefore far more susceptible to Mordremoth’s corruption. Faolain and the Court would do anything to corrupt the Dream, so I believe they’ll have a very important role in the story of Heart of Thorns.

In the Living World Season 2 ending cutscene, it shows Faolain spear someone through the chest and hold them in the air like a flag. The inclusion of it being Faolain is too random to be considered a coincidence. She and the Court must hold some importance in the story.

Who knows? The Court might even willingly join the dragon’s forces, just to wreck more havoc.
