Nightmare Court theory
The similarity between the Nightmare Court and dragon corruption has been one that’s been observed before.
That said, one thing I’d point out is that the scenes before we see Faolain fighting show violent prejudice against sylvari (first from Rytlock, and then towards Canach). Part of the impetus towards forming the Nightmare Court was to fight enemies of the sylvari in a more ruthless fashion then Ventari’s tenets encouraged, so what we’re seeing in that scene could be a backlash against anti-sylvari prejudice rather than the Nightmare Court joining Team Mordremoth.
That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if the NC does join Team Mordremoth. They’d have no scruples against joining the winning side, and their philosophy has always been to seek the “true nature” of the sylvari against the “corruption” of the Tablet – with this revelation, they might see joining the dragon as fulfilling their destiny.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
Given what we learned from PoNR (Ep8) I think the Nightmare Court may actually be Sylvari in their natural form, as opposed to the presumably “purified” Sylvari that are friendly NPC or PC.
Faolin may be attempting to take over leadership of the race in light of recent events.
What I noticed that all evil Sylvari went Red eyed in the video.
Now look who also gets that visual change: Faolain.
Could be a coincident, but I think not. We might have to take her down for good in the future.
That or Caithe goes with the power of love , I mean self respect , to take her down, like she should have done before.
When I saw the video I wondered if those were new/other Sylvari’s than we know of. None of the corrupted Sylvari’s so far had red eyes?
The Goonie who wasn’t in the movie.
I have a hard time imagining Courtiers joining the dragon willfully if that was going to turn them into mindless puppets. Either they’re victims, or Mordremoth’s influence on the Nightmare Court is different than it is on the Soundless.
Actually, with the whole “the Dream is some kind of shield against Mordremoth’s influence” thing, I don’t see how a Nightmare Courtier would become the dragon’s slave. The Nightmare is a part of the Dream, it has been stated a few time, so wouldn’t the Nightmare Courtiers be as much protected as the Dreamers ?
Why the whole plot point about the Soundless being the most vulnerable to the dragon if the Nightmare Courtiers were as much exposed as them ?
I think it would be more interesting if they were actually some Nightmare Court groups that’d be opposed against the whole “hey guys, let’s join the Dragon”. It would give a lot more depth to their Faction.
In addition to what PetboyJoshua said, wasn’t it pretty much established that courtiers are as anti-dragon as the other sylvari?
As much as I would prefer to see the Court remain independent, I will point out that during that sequence we also saw a mordrem troll fighting on their side. As for how they’re vulnerable… assuming, for the moment, that nightmare isn’t inherently Mordremoth corruption, we also see sylvari turn in large numbers on the airship fleet. Unless there just conveniently happens to be a huge proportion of Soundless among Pact sylvari, that would mean that the Dream is no longer guaranteed protection.

Or that being so close to Mordremoth, which the Pact must have been hence the bombing and the point of their attack, makes Sylvari far far more susceptible to the point at which the Dream is no longer an adequate protection?

Or that poking Mordremoth with cannonballs kittened him off enough to put effort into taking sylvari… there are possibilities. I’m not favoring any particular one just yet, just observing that one way or another the Dream (or Pale Tree, however immunity works into your personal theories) seems to no longer be foolproof protection.
It really seems as if Mordremoth’s influence is growing in strength, the Heart of Thorns teaser seems to show his eye opening for the first time since he last awoke, so I think as he’s been waking up, the effects of it are getting stronger. Before he was awakened, Scarlet was his only victim, even above the Nightmare Court, why? Omadd ran her through an experiment that no one else had survived, it connected her mind with the Ley Lines apparently, and Mordremoth was able to establish a connection at that point. Though she said Mordremoth always spoke to her in her dreams/nightmares, and it scared her as a “child”, I guess at this point, she either accepted, or was convinced of something that would either serve, or aid Mordremoth. We don’t know if she was FULLY influenced, as she seemed pretty self aware and didn’t act like a typical minion, however, she definitely saw something that convinced her to wake Mordremoth. At the point he woke up, the Aerin situation quickly followed, and more will fall as well. Aerin and Scarlet were both soundless, meaning they rejected the dream, but weren’t nightmare court either.
I suggest you all to read my thread about the link between the sylvari and Mordremorth where I talk about the Nightmare Court too.
Needless to say, what was considered a theory (though I was sure of it) proved to be fact, and now I think the entire story of GW2 is one step closer to have been deducted, though there may be some minor differences, for now I’m confident that the general aspect is true.

Dragon minions can retain their individually if the dragon chooses not to suck all of the magic from them – they just have loyalty to the dragon overlaid on and overriding all other loyalties. If the Nightmare Court decide that following Daddy Mordremoth is their true destiny, then I don’t think they’ll object.

I thought the big thing was a Hulk myself, which the Nightmare Court have always had.
Still, it is quite likely that with the Pale Tree still recovering, that the protection has weakened. Kill the leader, and the rest will fall in line…

Yeah, I think it’s because with the Pale Tree so badly injured (remember, last we spoke to her she was still lapsing in and out of consciousness) she was no longer able to protect the Dream to the same extent she normally does. It’s possible that, if the attack on the Grove had never happened, the Sylvari aboard the Pact fleet would never have turned at all. (Unless some of them are Soundless. It seems that all Soundless are now at risk of falling to Mordremoth’s corruption, but the risk greatly increases the closer they are in proximity to Mordremoth or his minions.)
