No mention of Lady Althea?!
I have similar concerns GW2 is one of the few games that tempts me to play a human, so I hope they are not neglected just because GW1 was their first outing. By all means, I’d love to see more lore for all races, but I hope that ArenaNet doesn’t commit the same error as a certain other company and favour its darlings, adding new races at an accelerating pace but forgetting about them a couple of years later..
Which brings me to another thing – I hope they make some manner of lore compendium accessible in game at some point. I know there’s GW-wiki, but something a little more elaborate would be nice, even if they charge separately for it.
Well, Lady Althea died before the Foefire, so she wouldn’t be a ghost…
Other than the fact she’s the daughter of Barradin and Fiance of Rurik, she didn’t have much to do in-game
Do you know how many other kings of Ascalon there were that we never see mention of? How many queens and princes and princesses?
Althea died early. I’m not surprised she’s not here.
I found a seperatist camp called “Camp Althea”. It actually made me angry at them for disgracing her name.
Given that Lady Althea not only died before the Foefire, but also moved on before it, the only lore on her would be what we already know – she was the daughter of Duke Barradin, and the betrothed of Rurik. Rurik gets very small mention, so does Barradin, simply because they’re not entirely relevant to the game’s story.
I think the above mentioned Camp Althea is the only mention of her in GW2. And I don’t mind this since, as said, she’s just a footnote in history.
Which brings me to another thing – I hope they make some manner of lore compendium accessible in game at some point. I know there’s GW-wiki, but something a little more elaborate would be nice, even if they charge separately for it.
Or something that’s not maintained by fans and thus easily susceptible to having speculation and/or false information added and overlooked for any amount of time, even years, and treated as fact by many.
I would love to have a full geneology of the human royalty, charr imperators, or what have you. We don’t even know who all of the firstborn are! There’s 3 or 4 unnamed ones!
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Camp Althea’s name is fitting – Althea’s fate is a great rallying call for those who don’t want peace with the charr. (What it’s missing is that vengeance for Althea should strictly be aimed at the Flame Legion, since it was the shamans that caused her horrific death.)
Her not being a Foefire ghost, however, is probably because she was no longer around at the time of the Foefire. The impression I got was that her ghost hung around to inform her family of her fate and because her remains weren’t properly put to rest – she would have passed over to the Underworld well before the Foefire, putting her spirit beyond its reach. (By contrast, we do see Grazdan the Protector rising as a ghost apparently after being buried, but we do see in both GW1 and 2 that humans, especially military humans, do have a tendency to rise as ghosts spontaneously to fight again, for good or ill.)
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

Actually theres a Ash Legion scout near Camp Althea which seems to suggest the Ash Legion charr had a camp there with the same name. Apparently local storys suggest that Althea’s ghost still wonders that area some nights. Ive tried to see if I can find her ingame around that area but no luck.
Curiously the charr named their camp after her out of, not exactly respect, but sympathy. She died, burned alive in a Flame Legion ritual. To them she died an enemy of the Flame Legion.
Its also worth noting theres quite a few charr which display disgust at the tactics used during the war against Ascalon.
