Nolani Academy - disappointed :(
Since launch I’ve been hoping to have this place opened up, so I was REALLY excited when I saw where the events were taking us. Without hesitation, I went to the lever that takes Charr to the bombarded grounds below… and everything went downhill from there to the moment I was thrown into a random crypt/cavern.
It doesn’t look alike… and apparently there was a Krytan king’s personal crypt/torture chamber under the Ascalonian Academy. But hey, it’s old and human! All humans are Krytan, right?
Rest in peace, Nolani Academy & plot ideas like Lord Odran’s notes on the Rift, a portal to Drascir, a mind-boggling spell or ritual, the Tome of the Fallen and its effects on the Foefire ghosts…

Never forget…
None of Ascalon’s academies of magic remain intact after the Searing. In its prime, the academy in Nolani was known all across Tyria as one of the most prestigious schools of magic on the entire continent. Ambassadors from Orr and Kryta often made special arrangements to have their children study here, even though they were not of Ascalon descent.

Nolani was such an elite instituition that even Orrians arranged to have their children study magic there. That’s something…

I’ll admit… I was pretty disappointed to.
I was a bit upset when the Betas came around that I couldn’t get into that area. When I heard we were being brought there (for whatever reason O.o) for B&M I found myself all excited that we get to head in there.
Only it was a rather standard old crypt. Was it cool to see some more Ascalonian ruins? Sure. Was it what I expected/wanted/hoped for? Not even remotely close.

Here’s the writing team’s thought process behind picking Nolani for the location of the Thorn crypt (told this to Konig last night):
“Hey, we need a crypt for this Krytan madman… any ideas?”
“Well, it can’t be in Kryta; we’ve used all crypts there…”
Dying whisper of reason: Majesty’s Resssst
“HEY! Let’s put him in Nolani! It’s empty! Not like we’re ever gonna use it for something epic and mindblowing!”
“Awesome! Bloody Prince Thorn entombed in a hidden reliquary of the Krytan Thorn family in Ascalon’s most prominent mage-training institution! It makes sooo much sense!”

Did you eavesdrop or something? That’s too accurate.

Nolani was a good college. So many good mages came from there.

Well, if the latest short story is accurate, Edrick certainly wasn’t one of them. :P He didn’t put up a fight against Thorn before getting shoved in the box!
Well if the latest short story is accurate, Thorn didn’t put the box where it was at all. That’s just where it ended up after hundreds of years.
