Why isn’t there a patron Spirit of the Wild for those using bunker builds. I mean, there’s Snow Leopard for tricky stealthy burst builds, then there’s Wolf and Bear for bruiser and sustain builds, and finally there’s Raven for sneaky sticky condi builds, but why isn’t there a Spirit of the Wild for bunker builds. This is travesty. This is discrimination againt a good portion of the population. Because of this, I make a proposition to the Keepers of the Mists (aka writers of Guild Wars 2) to include another Spirit of the Wild. Please include in the game the Spirit of the Tortoise.

I think Bears are the most representative of bunkers. On the ranger proffession the Bear line of pets has the highest health, toughness and sustain, and contains the most amount of support skills like healing, regeneration or condition removal. I think Wolf represents your DPS variant more.

Remember… Those four are merely the main/biggest/most popular ones.

There are other spirits of the wild like Minotaur, Hare, Otter, Gorilla (If you take an ingame item a certain way). I’m sure there is a spirit of the tortoise or turtle :P.

@Odyssey, but don’t bears chase down their prey as well? Yeah they’re omnivores so they forage for berries as much as they scavenge for dead animals (naturally died or kills of other wild animals), and yeah they do scour for food in trash bins as well, so they are survivalists. But I feel like they are more of the offensive type because of their aggressive nature against other animals.

@Kalavier, wow, thanks for that info. You were right, there’s also other Spirits of the Wild other than the main ones. I was thinking those four were the only Spirits of the Wild (plus Owl who got destroyed while the Norn where escaping, and Minotaur as well as a minor spirit you encounter in the game). I forgot there were others with Owl who were destroyed. But I didn’t know about the other’s existence (Hare, Otter, Gorilla, Griffon, Wurm, etc).

Are the Norn not living in pretty cold weather?
perhaps there are no tortoises in the cold climate of Shiverpeaks because they’re poikilotherm and that’s why, eventhough they probably acknowledge that there must be a tortoise Spirit, it is probably pretty unpopular.
I’m pretty sure that the norn believe (and the fact that the Havrouns actually gain something by serving the spirits makes it very probably that it is true) that all animals have a spirits, even hares or ants, so it is very likely, that when they encounter new species in the more southern regions they assume there must be a spirit for them too.

they’ve got whales in Frostgorge Sound though…perhaps the Spirit of the whale would be a good candidate for bunker builds.
the bear is probably the closest to it from the main big spirits…but she favors more a “chose your fights wisely”-strategy in my opinion.

Bears are the quintessential bunker. They are the apex predator for North America and most of Europe because of their immense size and protective layers of fat, muscle, and fur that make them incredibly difficult to actually kill.

Bears really aren’t that aggressive. Their diet consists of primarily foraged plant matter and only rarely meat. They are territorial and will protect their territory, but they don’t roam around beating up other animals for food. They find a location, claim it, and chase off other predators that try to take it. They bunker.

Naturally they have strong offensive potential, but they don’t excel at it. They use their powerful arms and sharp claws to kill less armored opponents who trespass in their territory. Just like a lone burst profession jumping a bunker on point and being out-sustained by the more resilient bunker.

I’ll add to this that part of the imagery of bears in GW2 is that of mother bears protecting their cubs.

I think Wolf represents your DPS variant more.

I always felt that wolf represented small group tactics, flanking, that sort of thing.
