Old map anomaly?
That’s an improper placement. It is the Eye of the North, but apparently an old version. That, or they made a MUCH bigger map than just the EotN building. The land and water is just like the lake that surrounds the Eye of the North in GW1.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Nah, I imagine there are many maps that Anet has “finished” but are not accessible. You can see two portals in Brisbane alone that support this theory.
While it was said in an interview that they wanted to go a bit further west for the Krytan nation (to where Loamhurst is, for example) which would thus be north of Brisban, but had to scrap it, nothing – let alone the portals in Brisban – indicates that they ever finished the map, let alone started it.
Plus the Fort Vandal one would more likely be a dungeon, given that how its designed matches the original design of dungeon entrances.

I hear ya, but I disagree. At any rate, I am sure that they have many other maps at the ready, they are just reworking them or keeping them on the back burner until they become relevant.
I have to agree that, that location on the map is the Eye of the North, just located differently. As to whether they have new maps being created… Well I guess we won’t know til they release them, lol.
There really wouldn’t be a reason to withhold a map that was finished. If they did have them finished, then they would have released them instead of Southsun Cove (made from scratch, didn’t even have a hint on the world map or any other map). So it’s rather unlikely that they have them completed or anywhere remotely close to done so that making a brand new but smaller map would be less work than finishing the incomplete map.
Having been on the test krewe for GW1, I know a bit about how they work – not much perhaps but a bit – and they’ve always been of the stance of “if it can be fixed/finished feasibly, they’ll do so and release it”.

Im sure you have seen videos of other games where people go to unfinished areas or dev testing sites. Undoubtedly GW2 has such locations.
I wouldnt be surprised if there was even mechanics/special class hidden to us that allow the devs to use any skill or any weapons/armor in any combination. Such things are necessary for testing.

Except that there is absolutely no way you would be able to gain access to maps that you are not intended to.
Yes you can glitch into areas within maps that were unfinished, but the mechanics for travelling between maps and the way the server tells which map you are in mean that there is almost zero likelihood of you being able to port into some magical unfinished zone that you shouldn’t able to reach.
First of all, they wouldn’t put an unfinished zone in game – there’s no point, they would be testing it on their own servers, no reason to implement it onto the live servers.
Second, if it were on the liver servers there’d be a good chance someone would have found something in the .dat that at the very least HINTED at its existence.
Third, they’re not idiots….
Konig is absolutely right, if they had a map that they were going to release – they would have done so. I would assume they probably are working on new maps, but until they decide to release them they won’t be accessible in any way shape or form within the game. It’s common sense, they know that datminers have a tendency to jump on anything new – that’s part of the reason patches aren’t released until patch day.
Also the devs don’t need a special hidden class that allows that, if you’ve watched some the live streams they have the ability to mess with things on their own servers for testing purposes – e.g. removing cast times completely. But they do that kind of stuff on their OWN servers for testing, not on the live servers. An intelligent company is not going to put potentially game breaking things on live servers if they can avoid it. Testing servers exist for testing.

The unfinished levels are often still in the game files, though unacceptable to you or I normally, you are right, but just look at World Of Warcraft, which they have a few test areas that ARE in the game files even if they aren’t part of the game.
Its not unheard of games to have near completed content that was unreleased in the final version. IE Mass Effect 3 has voices for all companions for every part of the game even though in the final release, many companions were not unlocked till later points.
If the devs can do something on their test servers, they can do it on the live servers. Normally they don’t but it is still possible.
Ohhh, for a second I thought you were talking about the Hall of Monuments area being in the Far Shiverpeaks, but that’s to the right of that lake up there.
