With the addition of Ember Bay, which was so close to Orr, I imagined the possibility of seeing a creature we haven’t seen for a loooong time, the gorilla.
We don’t see any types of gorilla at all in the game, except for undead ones [insert Harambe joke here], the closest thing we’ve seen added was the sloth in ember bay and in Maguuma.
So are the gorillas extinct? I doubt that there’s any in game lore on them, but I thought that as we returned to a location so near to Orr, we might be able to see some living gorillas. The fire island chain is VERY close, and these gorillas could hold their own just as well as, say, Karka, or sloths. Thoughts?
P.s. I am not a gorilla enthusiast, just someone who noticed that there are random massive amounts of gorillas in Arah story mode for absolutely no reason, and would like to see some that aren’t covered in sponges

There werent any in GW1 either so I guess they are extinct. The closest we had were the Simians which were more baboon like iirc and lived in the southern Maguuma Jungle near where Rata Sum and The Grove is.

There is a little known Norn spirit of the Gorilla a cording to the wiki. Perhaps indicates they were wider spread in the distant past.

Closest thing we’ve seen to gorillas outside of Orr were the simians in Tarnished Coast, which are oddly absent in GW2, and the Tusked Howlers in Kourna.

Orrian gorillas no doubt are extinct. Gorillas in general, however, can still exist elsewhere.

If Spirits of the Wild thrive where their species thrive, then there are likely gorillas far away, as the Gorilla Spirit that Randulf mentions is called a “far flung” Spirit of the Wild, and I wouldn’t consider Orr to be ‘far flung’ enough.

Also, I don’t see why gorillas would be in the super harsh environment of the Ring of Fire.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

To add to what the other posters said, sloth’s aren’t native to the Fire Islands either. It was just one sloth brought by the circus people from the Maguuma jungle. In GW-lore sloth are appearantly susceptible to magic, so they grow rappidly when exposed to lots of if. So far both sloth’s we’ve seen have been exposed to a lot of ambient magic, so that why it appears the sloth was thriving in Ember Bay. In reality it was just mutated. We can not say that the same is true for gorillas.

You don’t win friends with salad! Sorry I just got caught up in the rhythm.
