Personal story and this LS...
… It didn’t occur to me until now. Indeed, you’re a 100% correct.
The waters around the Mt Maelstrom deep were infected with the most lethal form of Zhaitan’s corruption, according to Trahearne. It should take months, maybe years, to clean that stuff. Unless the Pact cleansed it off-screen, which would be lame.

Goes to show I am starting to agree with a lot of people here. Anet is ruining the existing lore and old lore with scarlet. Its not a bad LS over all, its just this part irks me enough to only use it for achievements now.
I assume we’re just talking about the krait protecting obelisk shards? If we think that the Toxic Alliance krait are corrupted by dragons, then they could arrive to Mt. Maelstrom in current day, and not be affected by whatever lingering Zhaitan corruption is there.
The defiled waters would still kill and reanimate them, making them Risen Toxic Krait. Draconic corruption is accumulative. (See Kudu, his monter, Subject Alpha)

No we are talking about the blue orb the krait had in that area which staved off all corruption. The Krait there in Mt. Maelstrom turned to risen Krait after we took the blue orb away in Personal Story. Now they are Normal Krait again with a few toxic Krait transformed by the “super serum” properties of the toxins Scarlet made guarding the obelisk shard. I doubt the Krait could get back into the waters when the story stated, that the water was so corruptive, you’d die instantly and become risen just by talking a dip (for the player that means, you’d be defeated in one touch).
mm, didn’t notice that the regular mobs weren’t risen. bualdfl;ankc
I was always a little confused on the matter, because in the PS the waters were corruptive and unable to be swam in, but the heart in that region was all about getting the krait to fight the risen by disguising yourself as a risen wasn’t (stupid censor) it? All I know is I spent a large amount of time swimming in those waters afterwards.
The waters were undefiled in the open world from the get go, where they not? That personal story step had always been disconnected with the open world, since once you left it’d be “clean” water once again with living krait. The hearts around there are all about getting the krait and risen to fight – by disguising yourself as a risen and killing living krait.
This isn’t something new to the living story step.
I think what’s more confusing is the krait obelisks in the Flooded Castavell (sp?) in Bloodtide Coast. The area has an unnamed krait Deeps but the place is overrun with risen, yet there are Toxic Krait in the back with their obelisk. While it isn’t lorebreaking, gotta wonder what they’re doing there – did they not know the Deeps was overrun with Risen?
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Was an Obelisk there before?
No, all the obelisk shards are new.

Using the approximate scale of levels, I always figured that that personal story step took place after the events of the open world heart- that the zone is set back in time to before the risen corrupted it. The weirdest part about that zone, to me, is that the largest krait city in-game had not a single event associated with it.
Well if we do say that level dictates order in the initial release content, and then go by order of release after that…
There is the guild challenge mission that takes place there where you have to escort 10 quaggan that were imprisoned by the krait. So again, this update isn’t the first time that this “oddity” has occurred.
I would argue that should the PS take place post-hearts, then the ritual during the Source of Orr, the Pact’s continual push into Orr, and Zhaitan’s ultimate demise led to the corruption retreating.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
That makes sense then. Thanks Konig! Always helping us out with lore. You’re the best!
