Poison.
sylvaris might be plants, but they mimic human biology. considering it’s a fantasy world, it is very possible that the human biology is mimicked to the point where a sylvari and a human have essentially the same diet, the same needs, and find the same things poisonous. norns and charrs are still mammals, so they’d be vulnerable to the same things, with varying degrees of resilience.
asuras are arguable, they are very lizard-like, but they might not be reptiles. hard to tell, but for all practical effects, i’d say the rule of thumb is “if it works on a human, it works on the other 4 races”.
We know for a fact from Ghosts of Ascalon that spider poison works just as well on Sylvari as it does humans. Killeen has a very hard time getting over the effects of it.
@BrunoBRS: Asura are mammals. This was confirmed by Ree via Regina on Guru2 a long time ago (caused by Ree being shocked that there was fan-fiction which had asura laying eggs – they don’t).
@OP: There probably are racial-specific poisons out there, but just as norn are more resistent to cold yet still have equal susceptibility to being Chilled, mechanically these things aren’t shown. So mehcanically, everything’s equal unless there’s an “immunity to” ability on NPCs (e.g., hylek are immune poisons; dredge to blind; destroyers to fire, etc. – though this is sometimes bugged).
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
^ i am so very thankful that they don’t lay eggs lol.
but they don’t seem to show any mammarian traits, namely the glands we’ve grown used to call “nipples”. they don’t have the charr excuse of being covered in fur either, and as a result of male and female asuras sharing the same armors, there are plenty of shirtless asura armors to confirm there’s nothing under that pink getup :P
Sort of related – I think they’ve kind of messed stuff like this up:
There are few immunities, and conditions seem to affect all things equaly.
My warrior makes everything bleed…ghosts, earth elementals, undead, doesn’t matter. I have yet to find an enemy that doesn’t bleed.
gw1 had lot’s of things that had resistances to conditions. gw2 seems to be a little lacking when it comes to such things.

that’s because GW2 is much more focused on conditions than GW1. while in GW1 conditions were an assist to damage, in GW2 they can be the only source of damage of a build.
combine that with the fact that you’re not walking around in groups anymore and you have the current system, where enemies are immune, at most, to a single condition, and i don’t think anything is immune to bleeding (since it’s the main damage dealing condition).
oddly enough, my 10 year old cousin asked me why i could bleed golems and ghosts :P
Thanks for the input, though I was speaking lore rather than mechanics and would like to keep this driven in that direction.
I agree— even said that I get that ‘spider venom’ and all that jazz is a good healall solution— but was wondering if there were any racial specifics out there.
I mean… Just because we’re all qualified as mammals doesn’t mean we can all tolerate the same stuff.
For now I’m just going to presume the answer is “No, silly, go be creative” <3
none specifically racial poison as far as it’s known, lore or mechanically.
I’d imagine weed killer would be super effective against sylvari. /endjoke
As Bruno said, I haven’t seen any racial-specific poisons mentioned.
