Polearms.
Polearms would be cool. I’ve always wanted to roll a character based off Kain Highwind. Dragoon class!
And a man who trusts no one is a fool.
We are all fools, if we live long enough.”
Pretty sure that’s supposed to be a Spear that got mixed up somehow…
EDIT: Perhaps it is for NPCs? They might have “hidden” types of weapons like this. Anyone seen a NPC with that weapon?
Do you even lift, bro?

It could be for the one standing in Rytlock’s office.
That looks like a spear, maybe the whispers one?
And the addition of weapons would be much more viable than creating new professions, so we can expect that to happen more than the latter option

I checked. Generic Lionguard Spear skin, sadly.

Hylek use spears on land.

Hylek use spears on land.
And blowpipes if I remember correctly. Poisonous blowpipes for thieves and rangers, whoop!
And @Oglaf/Mystic Starfish, it looks more like a halberd or a naginata (Japanese polearm, google them) then it looks like a spear IMO.
I meant in-game, it’s a spear.
To me it looks more like a naginata than a polearm

Does those exist in the game? No they don’t. It looks like a Spear (note the capital S indicating weapon class in-game).

No. Know your spears. Spears look very Different (note the capital D). It looks like one of those weapons I said, not like a spear. Even the description in-game says ’’Polearm’’ and not spear.
Now you’re just being stupid. You know bloody well what both me and Mystic Starfish meant.
Do you even lift, bro?
Spears usually have two cutting edges or just a sharp point to stab with, now I haven’t really paid attention to the in game spear skins, but this one hasn’t, it looks like it’s meant to cut. Also, the in-game description says polearm. Why would a dev put that in the description if it was a spear, hmm? Pretty stupid if they mechanically don’t exist (sorry if I have offended you mr. Dev). And use arguments, not insults.
Looking at it in game, its a Order of Whispers weapon – the folding, segmented blade is very much their theme as are the animated spinning gears. The interesting thing is that while the style is blatantly OoW, its not the skin used for their spear (Whisper’s Secret Harpoon).
It should be a faction skin, but its level 58, so it’s clearly an NPC-only weapon – alternative ways of getting the faction weapons would be a no- no. Might see it in the hands of a Whispers Agent in an instance, but since we see Centaurs and Hylek both use spears on land, I’m guessing the polearm designation is an internal code to remind Devs that its a “land-spear” and its an asset they chose to salavage after the decision was made to NOT have polearms as a player weapon type.
Too bad, as it is really cool looking. Maybe folks will turn up more polearms in the DB and we can ferret out a bit more about what the weapon class was all about. Maybe the partial work done will encourage them to reintroduce the weapon class in an expansion.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
Doing a little analysis – it has the damage output of a two-handed weapon (with pretty high deviation).

That’s some nice research Nike. I’ve tried the template on all my characters and they all say ‘’Weapon type unusable by your profession’’ which can mean a couple of things – a mechanic to prevent us from equipping it if we were to get it through a bug, NPC only weapon or they’re designing new weapons for the future.
I really love the design, I think it’s one of the best designed weapons I’ve seen in-game, such a shame we can’t get it. I really hope it’s for a future expansion.
If you look at the damage: a lvl 60 rare greatsword hits for 620-686, that polearm is a lvl 58 rare and hits for 566-692, that’s a pretty big marge and really devastating. Imagine my warrior cutting with that thing through Orr. Whoop. I like the idea of that.
I’m not native english so I’m not sure if I’m saying this right, but the ’’handle’’ part, not the blade but the rest, also looks like a non-shiny version of the oppressor weapons from guild wars 1. There you had the part where you held it which was gold, and the rest which was red, it’s the opposite with this weapon. But that might just be imagination from my part.
