I was wondering what happens to Faolain after the events of Twilight Arbor Story Mode. Maybe I didn’t understand what happened there but it appears Faolain was just exiled from Twilight Arbor and not killed.

She is alive. They’re keeping her alive because of future story plans for her role.

Don’t forget this is only Act 1 of the Personal Story and we still have 5 or more Acts to go with each Act covering 1 Elder Dragon (Primordus, Jormag, Deep Sea Dragon, Kralkatorrik, and the 6th Unknown Dragon)

I think, maybe.. that 6th ‘Unknow’ Elder Dragon (related in teory with the silvary born) is not a Bad Guy like the others. I mean.. would be interesting to see something like that.

Officially she’s simply been driven out. Beyond that, we don’t know her current whereabouts. Her absence has left a definite power vacuum within the Nightmare Court so it can be assumed that, at least for the time being, she is no longer acting as Grand Duchess. I suspect she will return at some point and possibly attempt to reclaim her place as leader of the Nightmare Court.

It is pure speculation that each of the next five installments will be focused on a sole Elder Dragon. I don’t think that’s the case, and would in fact say that the next will deal with more than one – and that Primordus, the DSD, and the Sixth (which may not be awake) will be taken care of after some time – with non-ED expansions in between. But this, too, is pure speculation.

I think, maybe.. that 6th ‘Unknow’ Elder Dragon (related in teory with the silvary born) is not a Bad Guy like the others. I mean.. would be interesting to see something like that.

However, it is. The jotun history outright tells us of six “Swallowers” that destroyed the world many times over. Unless something happened to it after it went into hibernation last time, it is just as destructive as the other five Elder Dragons (aka “Swallowers”). If there’s a benevolent Elder Dragon, it’ll be an unknown seventh.

^ or the pale tree could’ve pulled a glint without realizing it. this tidbit of speculation tackles the sixth dragon, the possible existence of multiple trees (the only “evidence” we have is a sylvari with amnesia), and the nightmare court wanting the sylvari to go back to their true roots (pun intended) all at once. it doesn’t, however, explain how sylvaris have so much free will if they are supposedly dragon minions.

as for how, well you got ventari and ronan to thank, i guess.

I don’t think it’s really possible to “pull a Glint” – the will of an Elder Dragon is actively enforced on their minions. The only reason why Glint was able to break free was not only due to her telepathy (which could be the equivilant of the Pale Tree being raised by Ventari), but also – and more importantly – because of a powerful spell the forgotten used on her to give her free will. So without that spell, it shouldn’t be possible.

Furthermore, Malyck doesn’t (or didn’t) have amnesia – it was believed he didn’t before they realized he wasn’t from the Pale Tree (the PC, and in turn Caithe and Trahearne, believed he had amnesia because he didn’t know what the Grove or the Pale Tree was, however if you follow Caithe’s suggestion its shown that he didn’t have amnesia – he everything that happened since his “birth”, it’s just that he didn’t wake up near others – so he was much like the Firstborn when he awoke, except without a Dream of Dreams experience according to what’s found in Trahearne’s suggested path).

just because that’s the only known way, doesn’t mean it’s the only one. ventari and ronan could have been just as effective as the spell, we can’t know for sure because it’s speculation.

i stand corrected on the amnesia part, but it still implies a possible second tree (as well as all that crap on the echovald forest, but that’s completely unrelated to this discussion)

Except that there’s nothing magical about Ventari’s teachings or Ventari’s Tablet. It’s mere philosophy. And given the Arah path, the ritual/spell seems to be very powerful (we actually cast it during the dungeon, I hear believe, and it takes quite some effort to do so).

we can’t tell for sure. we also don’t know how much the souls of the dead influenced the seed, or even the place it was planted. there are inumerous factors that could have affected the outcome. the ritual is just the known way to do it, and it’s obviously more immediate and powerful (since it works on a full grown champion, rather than take hundreds of years and starts before the champion is even created).

It does seem that the nightmare is the “groundstate” of the sylvari.

It is really the part that, once you turn to the nightmare you can never turn back. Something accentuated on the first story arc (at least for me, the shield of the moon). I think that is maybe one of the clearest indication of the sylvari being some kind of dragon-minions that were somehow “anti-corrupted”.

Some thought provoking quote

TA was only about Faolain trying to recruit Caithe to the nightmare. Next time it will be where she is planning to destroy the tablet.

But you won’t kill her there either, she will vanish and comback again later.

However, given Malyck, his tree would also have to go through these to be a dragon minion like the claims – however, he and his tree were uninfluenced by Ventari, were, as far as we know, not buried on a human graveyard (we have no indication if this had any actual effect anyways), nor does it seem to have a tie to the Dream of Dreams (thus may not have influence from the Nightmare, Wyld Hunts, etc.).
