Question to lore writers: Wings?
I would say that Necromancer could make bat wings out of a corpse and Mesmer can cast any illusion they want to make them look everything.
Wings as backpieces are purely decorative, same as someone who’d choose to wear fake wings on regular days irl, Tyria just has a more extravagent bunch of adventurers :p
As gliders, i believe the very cliché and common answer “magic” can work, i’m sure there is some way to make them, either through magic or other sources (asuran tech), capable of carrying the pc while he’s gliding down.

I say the same thing. I use this same excuse for the Lunatic Guard outfit too, if you’re a mesmer, you can make anyone think you look like something you’re not.

Yep, friend has that her necromancer grafted the wings from a bat/another creature onto her back.
I’d say it’s not common, but it’s feasible. They would not be able to fly however, but could glide/jump higher.
In Guild Wars 1 there were a number of paragon skills that summoned wings, so wings are part of the lore.
ANet may give it to you.
Lore wise the Black Lion Trading Post exists, and is run by Evon Gnashblade. Evon is a very industrious little Charr, so if there is any in-game lore it’s likely that Evon decided to market a brand new line of products, wings!
If GW1 halloween quest are canon. then the Nameless Lich had the black wings!
