I doubt players will have a canonized answer to this, so im mainly aiming this question at the writers. Are the wings seriously a thing that happen in Tyria? Like, the Black and White Raven wings, and ive heard from guildies that another set of wings are coming to the gemstore supposedly.

Are these just a fashion statement in Tyria or are there certain professions/specializations that can summon wings? Or are they just fancy gliders designed by the Maguuma explorers who want to look pretty while on a crusade against a dragon?

Off the top of my head, the only things regarding wings we see the professions do is Dragonhunters using their Wings of Resolve to travel short distances, and when Reapers are activating Reaper’s Shroud, a pair of short wings appear for a second or two before fading away. Is it possible for professions to manifest these to actually fly/glide?

I would say that Necromancer could make bat wings out of a corpse and Mesmer can cast any illusion they want to make them look everything.

Wings as backpieces are purely decorative, same as someone who’d choose to wear fake wings on regular days irl, Tyria just has a more extravagent bunch of adventurers :p

As gliders, i believe the very cliché and common answer “magic” can work, i’m sure there is some way to make them, either through magic or other sources (asuran tech), capable of carrying the pc while he’s gliding down.

I say the same thing. I use this same excuse for the Lunatic Guard outfit too, if you’re a mesmer, you can make anyone think you look like something you’re not.

Yep, friend has that her necromancer grafted the wings from a bat/another creature onto her back.

I’d say it’s not common, but it’s feasible. They would not be able to fly however, but could glide/jump higher.

In Guild Wars 1 there were a number of paragon skills that summoned wings, so wings are part of the lore.

Lore wise the Black Lion Trading Post exists, and is run by Evon Gnashblade. Evon is a very industrious little Charr, so if there is any in-game lore it’s likely that Evon decided to market a brand new line of products, wings!
