Racial Expansions
I think that sounds cool, but so many people have their favorite races and would cry “Why?” and “Foul!” if they excluded races. The idea sounds interesting, however.
The idea is to focus on racial development, i.e, new animations and models.
You could always go with your basic GW2 char whatever the race it is and do the story. But it would be the story of the given expansion’s race.
Like the 4 stories in EotN. We were humans, but helping dwarves, asura, norn, charr and other humans.
This would kind of fit in the GW1 model in which an expansion didn’t require the previous one.
In this case all expansions would need the basic GW2, but they wouldn’t require each other.

Racial-focus among expansions. Just to avoid confusion.
Also, ArenaNet already said they’re doing expansions, not campaigns. The stand-alone campaign concept used in Guild Wars 1 won’t be kept in GW2.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Yes, racial focus among expansions.
I didn’t know they said that they’re not doing stand alone campaigns. Racial focused expansions would fit into the development model you said A.Net is taking now, anyway.
If you say Crystal desert is tied to the charr at all, or more than to the humans I’m gonna slap you with an asura.

Indirectly, yes. Kralkatorrik is the dragon that messed with their lands and it is located in the desert now. It wouldn’t be the first time they go there. The charr marched through the desert in ages past and destroyed Orr.
But no. Of course it’s not their homeland. We’ve got a point of agreement there.
Well, we don’t know that Kralky is in the Crystal Desert anymore. Last we knew he flew off to get away from Destiny’s Edge. He could have gone a hundred places from there, but we do not know.
Sorry for bumping this, but I think it’s the best place to post this idea I just had.
There could be new racial classes too:
Human: Dervish.
Norn: Shaman.
Asura: Golemancer.
Charr: Warmaster.
Sylvari: Forest Keeper.
They’ve already said they won’t race-lock professions. Race or gender locking is the first step towards losing all of your players…
Also racial expansions doesn’t really work. The idea is that all the races have come TOGETHER in the fight against the dragons. The Dragons present equal threat to all the races and provide the basis for player interactions within the game. I understand that some races might have specific reasons to dislike a dragon more than the rest, but when it comes down to it the Dragons threat Tyria as a whole, not one specific race.
What was meant with “racial expansion” is “racial focused expansion” – like how there was so much focus on Orrian history and the sylvari with Zhaitan (sylvari got the most focus out of all five races when fighting Zhaitan, overall). So the Kralkatorrik expansion would have a lot of focus on charr NPCs and lore, Jormag’s with norn, etc. But it wouldn’t be limited to players of those races.

Sylvari: Forest Keeper.
In adition to what has been said, this specific profession is the Ranger (in other languages like Spanish the name given to the profession once translated to english again is Forest Keeper, in spanish it’s Guardabosques). People tend to think Ranger comes from range, but it’s more in the sense of a “Montaraz” (another spanish word that translates to Ranger, think Aragorn before Lord of the Rings books started).
You forgot Elona, which doesn’t have a Charr/Asura/Norn presence either.
Cantha and Elona will make it, pretty sure of that, but they’ll require heavy retcon.

You could be right, but they could go in completely different directions. Obviously if we get back to Cantha, something has to be done about allowing other races there. It could be that their situation is so desperate that they don’t care who comes to their aid, thus allowing Charr, Norn, Sylvari, and Asura into Cantha. Any new professions will have to be available to be learned by all races.
Same with Elona although I believe that should be easier. Elona is not Xenophobic. They have several other races besides humans there. It will have to be a possibility of a trek there by Tyrian characters even if they create a new profession for the place.
So they may not have to retcon anything. They just have to come up with a suitable reason for us to return with any race we want to bring.

Eh. retcon is a pretty strong word. Right now the way is already open because 250 years after GW1, we don’t know a whole lot about present day Elona beyond Joko ruling with an iron fist and we know less of Cantha.
Sylvari: Forest Keeper.

I was thinking in something like a vegiemancer. And my native language is spanish. The translation I was thinking of is “Guardian de los Bosques”
As Dustfinger noted, we haven’t had any idea of what’s happening in Cantha for a century, and if you look at An Empire Divided, Canthan history is full of one emperor doing something and then a later emperor reversing it. Present-day Cantha could be very different to xenophobic Usoku-ruled Cantha.
On the ranger thing… ‘ranger’ is based off ‘range’, but while there’s a common root word with ‘range’ as in ranged weapons, it’s a pretty distant common ancestor. It’s uncommonly used now, but “ranging” used to refer to crossing back and forth across an area in a systematic manner, such as one might when patrolling or exploring the region. A ‘ranger’, then, is a person who does this.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
Canta had a xenophobic Emperor 200 years ago. Cantha had. But lately, who knows what’s going on there, as others have said. The main reason why we can’t get there is Zhaitan, who’s got killed.
Soooo… expansion incoming!

we really really want it.
Protect him at all costs.
I highly doubt they will say no to cantha, I just think it’ll be a long time before the story gets to a point where going there is logical.
