So I had a random dream, day dream, maybe nightmare about the origins of the first dragons, specifically Zhaitan. This coming from a dream makes it a bit hard to keep the story straight, but here goes.
It was in the deep past close to the time of the first civilizations, before the dragons rose. There were dragons, but they were complete forces of nature. They still are and always will be but most of them were slumbering, and the few that weren’t, didn’t bother learning how to converse with any races, seeing then as a passing fad. Like the many other animals and areas they’ve seen change and go extinct.
Zhaitan was human! Definitely not true in the lore as far as we know currently, but again dream. So here’s the confusing part, he was a dragon, but he thought he was human. He looked like a human with long black hair in my dream so that’s understandable. Anyway when he was growing up he had the sorry end of the stick growing up in the slums. He also felt cursed as everyone who met him felt there was something inherently wrong with him. Mostly just them scoring anything that was different. Due to this mistrust and his status he was openly ridiculed, beaten, and harassed growing up. Then when he was an adult his impromptu family in the slums finally got really lucky and had their status improved to somewhat of a middle class. However they ended up being forced to make the choice between breaking all ties with Zhaitan or letting their status go to someone else. Deathly concerned of their families future with the hardships of living day by day in the slums, they chose status.
Zhaitan having the final dagger thrust into his heart by the only people he’s ever loved couldn’t cope. He ran to a cove near the ocean. His breathing was labored, and corruption was puffing out in some of his exhales. He kept thinking how people could be so cruel to him without reason! How they could make assumptions about entire peoples they haven’t met. He hated them. He thought he knew a small number of kind souls that made things different, but he was wrong. Every labored exhale was creating corruption now, and he could see it linger in the air. Finally Zhaitan couldn’t hold his hate in any longer. If he was doomed to be mistreated for the rest of his life, then they can deal with the feeling they had instilled, and then Zhaitan roared engulfing the magic of the entire area, destroying his human form, and instilling fear across the land. There the first connection between mortals and dragons was made and it was horrible. Zhaitan’s rage and feelings were directly communicated to all the other active dragons. And so the dragons rose for the first time, seemingly wiping out all the races, and instilling corruption magic into most if not all the dragons.
So that was hard to write as I mostly was trying to remember what was happening in the dream, and try and get it to make a lick of sense. Anyway I think it’s very interesting, because when Zhaitan awakes in our time he could of awoke not only because of that huge spell going off, but from the feelings of the humans of that time. It also kind of explains his horrible fighting style of making people fight and destroy their loved ones as he feels any form of humanity is disgusting now, and they all need to be punished and enslaved forever.
Anyway thanks for reading my garbage. Sharing is caring <3
