Anyone here have any information on Rangers and their lore? Like how their magic works (In detail), how have they changed since 250 years ago from the first Guild Wars? Lorewise how do tyrians view rangers? If anyone could provide as much information as possible that would be great. (even info that does not relate to my questions)

I am very Interested in the lore of the Professions since we rarely get any in game.

My first suggestion is to read the page on the GW and GW2 wiki. They have some nice quotes there.

A good way to learn the lore of a profession is through their skills. A major part of the ranger is their beastmastery. This isn’t very prominent in GW2, but in GW1 I LOVED playing beastmaster. Also notice skill such as traps, preparations, and nature spirits. In essence, Rangers are all about nature. As such, they are often aligned with Melandru. In pre-searing Ascalon, the first pet you would tame was a Melandru’s Stalker.

There’s not really a lot that’s confirmed. We do know that they draw power from the spirits of nature – both elemental and, it is implied through some of their attack animations, animal spirits, albeit not in as direct a fashion as the norn (rangers can’t shapechange, they just temporarily borrow a bit of power for certain stunts). We’ve also been told that part of the reason rangers don’t use guns is to emphasise their bond with nature over reliance on the products of industry. (In fact, this is also one of the few changes we have been told about – rangers in GW2 are in fact more focused on nature magic than those in GW1.)

Beyond that: One theory is that rangers are essentially combining a rudimentary form of elemental magic with martial prowess and fieldcraft. Another theory is that they’re essentially like ritualists, except that they invoke natural spirits instead of calling spirits from the Mists, and that all of their more magical abilities are essentially calling on a spirit to aid them. If I recall rightly, we have been told that magic is employed in taming animal companions.

Attitude-wise, we don’t have a lot. Humans respect them as students of Melandru, norn and sylvari due to their closeness to nature. Charr rangers tend to be regarded pretty much as skilled warbeast handlers, while asura… IIRC, asura rangers are seen as a little odd, but generally regarded as nature experts. Basically, they’re generally respected by all the races, and for norn the ranger is probably close to their ideal.

It’s worth noting that warriors seem to be rare among the sylvari, with rangers largely taking their place in groups such as the Wardens.

If you’re interested in the professions in general and have forty minutes to spare, this might be worth a listen. The page might be German, but apart from the introduction the audio is in English.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

Oh my thank you for that, I just finished listening to that audio and it really gave me a lot of info on what I was looking for. What really got me excited was when I heard there may be new professions in the future, or a reemergence of old professions.
