I’ve loved your lore since Guild Wars 1. However, Guild Wars 2 seems lacking, even with its living story. Living story needs a couple volts to the chest because it is in heart failure.

Once upon a time, there were (roughly 6, they could add more) Elder Dragons. We rallied the 3 orders and Destiny’s Edge together to hunt and defeat Zhaitan. One dragon down, several more to go.

Then we had a karka invasion, Molten Alliance (a random blend of dredge and flame legion), Saving the refuges from the alliance’s war of 4 seconds (also felt like a random blend of living stories), Aetherblades (Throwing pirates and Inquest in a blender. Note the repeat of said blender.), Evon Gnashblade and Ellen Kiel (I felt it was rigged but my main is a Charr. That may be biased), Queen Jubilee (my charr did not like this), Scarlet (Harley Quinn and the Aetherblades and Molten Alliance technology, ANET LOSE THE BLENDER. Its not in good shape anymore. You can’t even make a smoothie with that thing.)

What happened to the dragons? Yes, Scarlet knows some terrible secret of Caithe. We all know she is a lesbian. Or yet a better question.

The Gods were huge in GW1. Where are they now? Even my charr would love a challenge in decimating Dhuum in the Underworld. You have valid reasons for the gods to exist for all the races, even their corrupted shrines that everyone cleanses. With out the gods and dragons, what direction is the lore going?

takes a sledge hammer to the blender, repeatedly till it is a fine as pixie dust

Edit: Where is the Scepter of Orr? We last saw it in Livia’s hands.

Hit it a few times and make it into Crystalline Dust. I could use a bit more of that… ;P

On the MA thing… that actually made some amount of sense.

Both groups were stuck in civil war and needed an edge over their enemies after their leaderships were killed off. And it wasn’t 4 seconds, but 4 months with a bunch of surprise attacks.

But I concur with the purpose of the thread.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Sigh…They got the blender back out. Nightmare Court and Krait. I hope you have poison removal.

And I will give Konig some credit with that. Molten Alliance lasted about 4 months and so did the aetherblades. I just don’t feel like it lasted long personally. I guess cause the first couple of months weren’t fighting. We were helping refugees. Later, we were allowed to help.

People keep assuming the Nightmare Court are involved in this. Why? Just the word “Nightmare”?

EDIT: Seen the post on ‘Hub, but that’s still not a direct source. I’d like a direct source.

No, mostly because of the Nightmare Court roots coming out of the tower.

Roots coming out of the tower and krait glowing like nightmare husks are fairly good examples that the nightmare court is involved

I really don’t see where people are drawing the husk comparison from. Husks are yellow, going on orange near the bottom edge. The new krait are yellow-green going on green, much the same shade as shadow imps or twisted clockworks.

No, mostly because of the Nightmare Court roots coming out of the tower.

I just see roots. Could be the “jungle dragon”, or even just the Krait growing something themselves.

I just think it’s too little to assume NC involvement for certain, which is what a lot of people seem to be doing.

Those roots are purple and full of thorns.

Plus there’s been several press releases saying Nightmare Court – typically they’re given more than the official site previews so it’s likely truth.

I listened to interviews with developers. They are not giving up the dragon storylines. The Pact is preparing for the next dragon and other things are happening. It was not entirely clear when they would be rolling out the next dragon, but it seemed to be the next full expansion.

I noticed you left out the newfound might of Tequatl the Sunless, which is living story and an example of dragon lore.

They did not. In fact, they’ve been mentioning that they’re hoping the living story can replace the need of expansions.

Extremely doubtful from what we’ve seen. And if they do manage it, it’ll be in bits and pieces over a year or two with it being severly buggy and a storyline that goes away every 2 or 4 weeks!

I apologize but this thread isn’t about the new patch. This is about living story over all. I want to know why were not worried about the dragons. Everything is suddenly trying to be Hitler and trying to take over the world. They are all some how related to Scarlet. While the branded are roaming the Ascalonian lands, Jormag’s corrupted are invading the Shiverpeaks, Zhaitan’s army is still occupying most of Orr (that may never change I understand for people who haven’t killed Zhaitan and done their Personal Story.) There are a lot of options there. Without going to the actual dragons or touching the deep sea dragon (bubbles) and Maldramorth.

I think the living story is cool. It’s a great way to tell little stories about events going on around the world and a great way to give people a reason to keep playing (Yes Seyo I know I quit playing for almost a year). HOWEVER, they aren’t good for major storylines like the dragons.

Essentially, Zhaitan got his own game about the hero who starts out dealing with their own problems and slowly expands to dealing with Zhaitan. BUT there’s hints of Zhaitan through the whole game. Everything in one way or another once you get past your personal story has to do with him.

The other dragons should get similar treatment, and tiny mini stories leading up to them would mean that anyone not playing at the time would have little to no connection to the new dragon, which would do a disservice to the lore that Arenanet has already established unless you play through all of it.

Not to mention I miss the lore of the rest of the world, which was as vibrant and fun as Tyria (the continent. Why couldn’t we give that a different name?).

I love the lore too, and would like to see a lot more of it. I personally have lost a lot of the newer lore simply not by playing for a bit, and the game could only benefit from more for those of us who care.

Never let the light blind you to the darkness.

One of the Living Story developers said the LS teams were not developing an expansion. Some news sites then declared GW2 was not doing any expansions. Colin then posted a clarification saying other teams were working on longer term projects. Colin should not have to have done so, since the interviews I heard made it perfectly clear they were taking about the LS teams.

I remember the line Konig mentioned being made as a direct quote, but it was a while ago – it’s possible, even likely, that they’ve decided otherwise since.

Can you link to the clarification? (I’m not contesting you here, I’d just like to see it for myself if you can find it reasonably conveniently)

People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.

The funny thing is that the living story isn’t telling little stories abotu events going on around the world.

It’s telling Scarlet’s story – Scarlet Briar’s actions and the repercussions of those actions.

News to me. The “clarification” I saw was Colin saying that they haven’t definitively decided on no-expansion but instead want to explore the possibility of giving the content of an expansion in Living Story format.

Granted, as drax said, it was a long time ago. So things may have changed without me seeing. I’d love to see the source though, as that’d be at least one improvement ArenaNet’s made recently.

Forgotten from where and from whom, but Anet has just started preliminary work on the next expansion this mid September past while they are over half beta testing the China release. The said preliminary is mostly focusing on the crystal deserts and other separate areas. It will not be about Elona nor about Cantha.

Don’t ask me for source Idk.

It’s telling Scarlet’s story – Scarlet Briar’s actions and the repercussions of those actions.

Scarlet seems the be the personal nemesis they are talking about, but to our knowledge she is not involved in many of the Living World episodes:

Flame and Frost – deeply involved
Secret of Southsun – no evidence of involvement
Dragon Bash – involved
Cutthroat Politics – almost no evidence of involvement (one fight with Aetherblades doing ordinary pirate work)
Queen’s Jubilee – deeply involved
Tequatl Rising – no evidence of involvement
Super Adventure Box – no evidence of involvement
Halloween – predates Scarlet’s shenanigans, so not a fair comparison

Secret and Southsun and Cutthroat Politics were dealing with situations created by Scarlet’s activities. She may not have directly appeared, but neither would have happened without her, so they’re still part of Scarlet’s story.

Super Adventure Box and (obviously) Halloween are holiday events (SAB1 was an April Fools event that expanded, SAB2 was explicitly a Back to School event marking the end of the US summer holidays). Same, obviously, applies to Wintersday.

Tequatl is essentially just updating world bosses and apart from the fig leaf of having Rox running around, has no significant story behind it.

So, basically, all of the “serious” plots since Lost Shores have been part of Scarlet’s Personal Story.

I fully disagree:

Flame and Frost: Scarlet was behind the Molten Alliance
Secret of Southsun/Last Stand at Southsun: Repercussions of the Molten Alliance’s (and by extension, Scarlet’s) actions
Dragon Bash/Sky Pirates: Attack by Aetherblades, who work for Scarlet.
Bazaar of the Four Winds/Cutthroat Poltiics: Repercussions of Aetherblades (aka Scarlet’s) actions.
Queen’s Jubilee/Clockwork Chaos: Scarlet attacks.
SAB: No Scarlet.
Tequatl Rising: No Scarlet – yet (note: Bobby Stein said that Tequatl Rising’s story is tied to the Living Story progression, we just don’t know how yet).
Twilight Assault: Scarlet’s base
Blood and Madness: no Scarlet, though we got a preview of Tower of Nightmares.
Tower of Nightmares: dat-mining claims Scarlet’s involved.

So only Halloween, SAB, Lost Shores, Wintersday, and Tequatl Rising has shown to have no Scarlet involvement – directly or indirectly. Overall, that’s a grand total of 7 updates out 20 (21 if including Tower of Nightmares) since the updates began that do not involve Scarlet or involve the repercussions of her antics – you can easily subtract 3 (Shadow of Mad King, Lost Shores, Wonderful Workshop of Tixx) if you wish since that’s before Scarlet’s plot as you said.

Tequatl is essentially just updating world bosses and apart from the fig leaf of having Rox running around, has no significant story behind it.

One would think that given what we saw in-game, but Bobby Stein says otherwise! See this thread.

To quote the more important line: “Tequatl becoming stronger (and Rox being present) are both tied into the overall LW story. More will be revealed later.”

I’m inclined to regard that as a handwave until the reveal.

Then I might allow it to count, although I may also argue that when that happens, the update where the reveal happens is the one that counts and Tequatl Rising is still just mechanics. Either way, though, if it ties into the LS, we certainly can’t say whether it ties to Scarlet or not until we know how it does tie into the LS.
