Rata Sum is Murasat spelled funny
You mean Mursaat?
Anyway, the anagram has been noted before. I doubt it means anything, but ’ya never know.
The term here would be anagram
EDIT: Cenex, how dare you ninja me.
From the wiki:
- ‘Rata Sum’ is an anagram of ‘Mursaat’.
- Two of the possible translations from Latin of “Rata Sum” are “I have calculated” and “I am certain.”

Given the Asura this is a more likely answer.
Maybe Mursaat is an anagram of Rata Sum and not the opposite
There is also the Rata Pten, if that means anything.
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)
Mursaat is one of the Elder Races, I would think they predated Asura, or at least Rata Sum
Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
Yeah I know, and then they “run away” leaving the other 4 races against the Elder Dragons … and thinking that this coward race is so powerful compared to the other races nowadays.
Seriously @topic: Anet could have thought in name the city as an anagram to Mursaat and also be a word with meaning, there are site that sort a word in a lot of anagrams, then you just pick one.

The city was founded in GW1 and was rumored to be founded over Mursaat ruines which is likely where the name came from in my opinion. It also works on another level with the latin translation. I’d love to see some living story return of the Mursaat, they are by far my favorite race. Hopefully in due time.

Just to clarify Invictus’ point, rumored by fans. There wasn’t any dialogue in-game to suggest which race the ruins came from, though an official source did describe them as a “failed civilization” (I believe it was one of the articles from before GW2 launched.)
There is no canon that links rata sum to the Mursaat.
And to add to Aaron’s statement, the architecture of the Rata Sum we see (in GW1) compared to asuran architecture from the Depths of Tyria make it highly likely that they are the ruins of an ancient asuran settlement or laboratory.
Rata Sum as we see it now (GW2), is very different, and has been made by the asura between the times of GW1 and GW2.
Watch it, feel really intrigued, then realise this is old news and it will take a while until we’ll get any new information from Anet.
And then go cry in a corner.
Just tried an anagram solver, Mursaat can also be “Traumas”.
Kinda interesting, given their agony.
