Roleplay question
I’m not a roleplayer, so I can’t answer completely, but people do roleplay in GW2, yes.
There are some complaints from roleplayers about how well ANet foster the RP community, though. Megaservers made finding other roleplayers difficult/getting harassed by non-roleplayers easier.
The other complaint people seem to have is that there aren’t a lot of options to immerse yourself in the world, i.e. sitting on chairs or having enough emotes to display a wide variety of actions.
ANet recently added some new emotes that NPCs had access to that will help a bit (i.e. /talk) but in general I’d say the support for roleplayers compared to other MMOs is lacking in GW2.
There is a roleplaying community here: http://www.guildwars2roleplayers.com/
One of the nice things is that squads can now allow you to avoid trolls – one of the worst things about RP in the game is that emotes carry for a very long ways in a map, so even if you are tucked away in a corner doing your scene, the map will know you’re there and sometimes the trolls will arrive.
There are active RP guilds there’s even Brother Drake’s (I am not a member of his guild) Saturday sessions that are open to the public and feature large scale in-character adventures through maps in Orr and HoT that combine RP and PvE. So you can find RP, you just have to know where to look and Diovid just pointed out the main RP site for GW2 that’s been there since the beginning.
I run a successful roleplay guild. Roleplay does exist.

Like any MMO setting you just need to accept that there are non-roleplayers out there, even if that acceptance is something they seldom show in return.

I only ever seem to get linked NA guilds. I don’t think I’ve been linked to an EU guild ever.
I guess EU is not as active as NA on the roleplay side.
True, maybe, but that doesn’t mean they don’t do it. That site linked earlier has an EU guild recruitment section, and a quick look shows that eleven of the threads have been active in the last week. We happen to have more NA roleplayers on the English lore forums than EU, and it’s probably true that more EU players are on NA worlds than the other way around, but best I can tell the EU scene is still going along just fine.
