I’ve been thinking about the Sylvari who turned on the pact in the final scene of this living story and have a theory that may help tie together some Personal Story with current events as well as explain how PC Sylvari won’t be affected.

My speculation is that anybody who embraces the Pale Tree’s dream is protected. Soundless are susceptible, as are nightmare court. The explanation for all the Sylvari turning on the pact is simple in my mind.

- Some were soundless

- Some may have been nightmare court (but unlikely)

- The rest were Sylvari from Malyck’s tree that have been under Mordy’s influence for quite some time since they don’t have a dream to protect them. Mordy has proven to be smart, so he could have had them slowly infiltrate and join the pact until just the right moment. Very few people know of the existence of another tree so nobody would have questioned any Sylvari who wanted to join the pact.

Now, as for the future, we see all Sylvari being prosecuted. This is understandable because who could tell a Pale Tree Sylvari from a Mordy Sylvari aside from perhaps the Pale Tree herself?

Thoughts?

It’s better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

I very much doubt none of the Sylvari in the pact fleet were Dreamers, or that all of those present were weak willed ( as suggested elswhere). Those were Sylvari that joined the pact to fight the Dragons, they were courageous and determined. From my understanding, close proximity the their actual Elder Dragon root ( pun intended) “rebooted” them to their default function. ( just another theory )

On a related note, I don’t see the Courtiers as default sylvari behavior either ( meaning Dragon influenced ). They always came across to me as the “mustache twirling evil” trope and that does not apply the Elder Dragons’s modus operandi… but that’s another discussion.

I too am curious about the status of Malyck’s people though.

I don’t think any of the sylvari from the cinematic were from the Grove, but instead from Mord’s tree(s). The Grove sylvari died with the rest of the Pact soldiers.

That’s my interpretations anyway.

There is a problem with that explanation, though- sylvari are connected on an empathic level through the Dream, and are able to sense when one of them is Soundless, as well as that Malyck was disconnected from their Dream. The only way non-Pale Tree sylvari would be able to infiltrate is if they never came into contact with Pact sylvari- seeing as they make up roughly one-fifth of the organization, no easy task. I suppose it is possible that they were passing themselves off as Soundless, but if so we’ve got another idiot ball storyline- we should have passed on to Trahearne that we’d learned that the Dream is protection against Mordremoth, and he should have therefore been suspicious if an influx of unprotected sylvari started circulating through the ranks.

R.I.P., Old Man of Auld Red Wharf. Gone but never forgotten.

Pack Soldier: Hey Trahearne we’ve just received reinforcement from the Grove.
Trahearne: Oh I see. So many new faced that I’ve never seen before, or for that matter than anyone currently stationed here has ever met. No-one even told me they were coming. And they arrived from the west, from deeper into the Maguuma Wastes. This seems suspicious…
Pack Soldier: Yeah but they’re all wearing Pack armor.
Trahearne: Why did you say so to begin with! Load them onto the airships.
Pack Soldier: But where will we put them?
Trahearne: Next to the exploding barrels of course.

Perhaps the boarded the ships when they were attacked?
They could have easily ridden the vines up to the ships or gotten on other ways.

I don’t recall the attacking Sylvari wearing Pact armor, nor wielding weapons that normal tyrians do.
