Scarlet makes GW2 better
Every new content is one of the best during the first 2 months after release. Then people start to see flaws or ways to abuse the mechanics….
LS1 had content lasting for one month, so people did not see the flaws before it disappeared, letting an impression of awesome. That is some rose tinted glass effect.
There are many people saying that Tower of Nightmares was a great content in the game, yet I am sure that if it was still a thing, it would be criticized like crazy for being a loot train without any purpose.
Let alone the shifting of players interest. Marionette was great if you could log in 30 minutes in advance to not be stuck alone in an overflow server. Today, if it would still exists player would be complaining about the lack of other players, or people exploring Lornar’s Pass feeling harassed for not wanting to join the event. With some work it could be included in WB schedule like TT…. but who does still find TT as an awesome fresh encounter?

I’m not sure I’ve seen Scarlet in Heart of Thorns, anyway.

Scarlet was at least somewhat relatable villain. All these evil dragons and some magic flying dudes from outer space feel so meh.
Maybe I’m popping a bubble herr but maybe Scarlett was so good because you never got to farm it. Nor dud people have enough time to find mechanics to exploit
Obviously controversial topic ahoy!
Granted, I started off liking Scarlet. She was our giggly Joker understudy. We did actually get some interesting content out of it, too.
The invasions lingered on too long. Scarlet lingered on too long. As we learned more about her, she just got to be more and more of the Mary Sue the accusations make her out to be. Even after she died, Taimi carried around this fangirl torch for her, and ANet refused to let Scarlet stay dead.
So, no, we don’t need more Scarlet. Her time is past, and I won’t cheapen our victory at the end of Season 1 with bringing her back.
We need new, more compelling enemies. There’s a Mursaat on the loose! We have an egg to babysit. Primordius might be rising from the depths! None of that requires Scarlet. Or Caithe, for that matter. We’ve been through Artichoke Heart of Salads, now let us focus on something else.

Right? I don’t have an opinion on Scarlet, personally. However, the sheer 180* some of these forum posts have taken is ludicrous. I remember when everyone hated Scarlet as a character and wanted her gone.
It’s one of several reasons I can’t take these forumers seriously anymore.
Personally, I liked her. But man . . . the amount of hate she got on these forums. She was called everything from cardboard to a poor plot device.
Well like 90% of her character development was done way after her death. I know few people who changed their mind after learning more about her in the second season.
Maybe when Laz starts to cause mischief it will fill peoples ‘machiavellian agenda’ needs.

Nah, it doesn’t. It’s just this is the “Smooth Penguin controversial topic of the week” time again.

Because she was all that.

Actually, we farmed the kitten out of champion bags during Scarlet’s invasions. Nobody even bothered completing the events, we just zerged like crazy and ensured that as many champs as possible would spawn. Lots of complaints on the forum about that too. It’s why Anet designed subsequent events so that the mobs generally drop nothing at all, and the reward is for completion only.
Those were good times though.
Scarlet as a character and plot device, was abysmal. Annoying, uninteresting and arguably OP.

But I have to agree with Razor . . . can’t please everyone . . . or anyone lately. . . .
I dubbed Marionette funky booty…
Scarlet was bad and I’m glad she’s dead, but the Marionette was a fun event and worth repeating in some way if at all possible, even if marionettes backside was oddly shaped.

Pretty much.
I have to admit, my top 3 fave things in GW2 so far.
1- ToL tournaments (got to take some friends into PvP and 1 year faced the Abjured and the next the Cunning Stunts)
2- The Scarlet Lions Arch event with the 3 giant dudes and her mini dungeon where you actually stomp her. (insanely awesome)
3- The Queens Gauntlet, this would be number 1 but i failed to kill the lady for the mini due to not having gear on multiplayers since i played mostly PvP. So i have some saltiness towards not finishing all of it.

Doesn’t that tell us something about the quality delivered after Scarlett ???
Not sure if you are saying it’s better…or worse.
I think Scarlet was executed poorly in the story, it took way too long to learn why she was more than just randomness for randomness sake. Also we have the epic threat of the elder dragons and then just this random sylvari making alliances between various factions for….. reasons.
Yes they did tie it altogether eventually and retrospectively I like the story of Scarlet but the way it was told originally put me off so much that I actually stopped playing until season 2 of the living story when I found out from a WP video that there was a point to her after all.
No. /under 15 characters.
Never played season 1, but after playing season 2 her character makes way more sense, don’t think they should bring her back from the dead but I wish there was a way to replay season 1
Yes, I’m aware. =)
Do you mean gameplay or story wise ,OP?
Gameplay, only the twisted marionette stands out for me, but even that had flaws that are not easily corrected even today. The fight model has been copied to both Silverwastes and Dragon’s Stand, both of which I am fairly happy with. Your mileage may vary.
Storywise, Scarlet was one of the worst written villians in any medium I have seen during LS1. I still remember when they had her study and graduate from all three asuran colleges before it was retconned into her getting special permission to attend a few courses. It still doesn’t change the rest of her horrid backstory where she goes to every race’s best and brightest and learns from them all. The fact that we still know nothing about her impossible alliances of the month, strikes me as poor storytelling at best.
So no. I don’t want Scarlet back. Her voice work was top notch though. The only instance where I found her believable as a villian was her introduction during the Queen’s Gauntlet mission where she kidnapped Lord Faren.
