EDIT: I’m posting this in the lore subsection because I couldn’t find any more fitting sections of the forum

In the straits of devastation, just southeast of the Stygian Deeps, north of the rock that’s visible on the map (around here: http://puu.sh/1hOFw ) there is a huge underwater area with a female Priory explorer outside telling us that a Durmand Priory has hidden further into the cave (I think she called him Scholar Fryxx or Pryxx)
Inside the cave there are some skeletons (including dragon skeletons) and risen hands that cannot be attacked. The risen hands however will throw goo at you that gives you a “Covered in corruption” debuff for 9 minutes. This debuff makes you unable to activate some panels on the walls that I presume are required to be activated in order to pass an Asuran Power Field that´s blocking further advancement into the cave

Anyone know anything about this?

No, but now I have reason to head back into Straits of Devastation outside using this fancy new Pact Token I got from the update.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Yeah
I wonder if completing it will grant an achievement seeing as A-net stated they had added 4 (I think it was 4) new achievements to be gotten in the Explorer category
I didn’t manage to complete it yesterday but maybe I should try again when I get home.

So I managed to get through this (hint: multiple people help, as any one person has to deactivate the panels; hint 2: there’s actually a secret way around the field which a guildie found).

It gives “The Long Way Around” achievement in the explorer achievements, and the scholar Fryxx says that he’s studying the bones of long-dead creatures to help garner clues of the nature of Zhaitan. Said bones are what were discussed in another thread, where people suspect they are Leviathan skeletons (issue being the size, though perspective of the that video could throw folks off).

Oh, interesting! I tried this out earlier today, but I couldn’t get it done on my own. I did see the skeleton behind the force field, though. I was hoping it would be related to the leviathan. Very interesting indeed.

Dangit, now I want to complete it as well. I guess I’ll go look for that secret way around then!

That was remarkably easy!

As for the size, I don’t think it’s off by all that much. Here’s a picture for comparison.
(Keep in mind though, that my character is a norn, while the one from the manifesto trailer is a sylvari)

I didn’t know it gave an achievement.
A-net must’ve made that one yesterday because I found the area before the Halloween patch :P
Was there a chest?

Ugh, I can’t get in
As for the secret passage, there’s a small hole in the wall left of the asura force field but I feel you need to be an asuran to swim through :P

Well, what do you know!

Pretty cool to be able to say I (possibly) was one of the first people to complete this as googling the NPC names/achievement only reveals info about the Halloween patch. :P

I doubt it (there’s over a million people playing the game after all, and I bet only a small fraction bother with documenting stuff). A lot of people knew of Windy Caves, but it only just recently got an achievement in the Halloween patch. I think most of those achievements are of pre-existing locations/things. Though I wouldn’t be surprised if very few knew of that cave – Orr’s not a really popular place to go about exploring without reason or a lot of patience.

Well, I got through the secret passage with a norn on the tallest setting, so it shouldn’t be a problem to get through. If you can’t get through, perhaps you’re trying to go through the wrong hole. It should be somewhere around the upper right hand side.

The Windy Caves play a role in your personal story if you choose the Priory AFAIK

Strange, I actually found the entrance to be on the upper *bold*left*bold* side, slightly above the hole I couldn’t get through.

Oh yes, my sincere apologies. My Halloweenupdate-induced lack of sleep has apparently caused me to forget which side is which. It is indeed on the left side.

I just went there again, this time there was a male largos called Veteran Azzan outside the cave.
He has a short dialogue in which he explains he came to Orr because the minions of Zhaitan present some of the most challenging hunts.

Yes, I saw him there as well for a small period. As far as I could tell, he had nothing significant to say or do.

He’s related to an event to kill a Veteran Krait… something. Nimross? The event takes place right outside the cave – between it and Stygian Deeps. I happened upon it too. He’s unrelated to the contents of the cave itself.

Makes sense he isn’t there everytime and the character asks him about krait

Is that largos new, or has he been there since launch?
