I’m just wondering about what looks like skyscrapers in the background of the loading screen for Hoelbrak. Are they actually skyscrapers? And if so are they from a previous civilization or just a scrapped design idea? I know very little of the Guild Wars mythology and I couldn’t find anything about this in the wiki.
I took a screenshot to show you.

Look like old ruins. Could be one of several old civilisations that existed in the Shiverpeaks.

Dont look particularly dwarven though so Im not sure.

I recall something vague about some grand magical society that lorded over everyone else from their high towers in the mountains, I want to say in the Shiverpeaks specifically, but I also might just be in a Guild Wars frame of mind right now and mixing it up.

I might be thinking of another game. But I am gonna go do some digging.

Yup, I am mixing up my games. In the process of typing out a big rant about how I can’t recall where I am getting this from, I remembered I am thinking of the female follower’s story from Diablo 3 and the Vizjerei ruling from their ‘beautiful, towering cities’.

But now I am curious.

That’s just concept art so it’s unlikely to be part of the actual game. Probably just intended to show the size of Hoelbrak’s lodges. There’s no actual skyscrapers in the Shvierpeak Mountains, but I’d say those are just really tall buildings – not yet skyscraper level..

@Masta Squidge: Sure you’re not thinking of the jotun, who had “grand” citadels in the highest peaks of the Shiverpeaks? :P (We can see at least 2 or 3 of them in game, I wouldn’t really call them all that superb, or citadels, though).

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

I’m positive. I remembered a specific word in the dialogue, and upon my revelation did some googling and there it was.

In all honesty I think this was a blotched concept art that they just added a couple of Dolyaks to. If you look to the top left, just below the western-most “skyscraper”, you can clearly see the smudged shape and colour of what is definitely a construction crane. Following the yellow colour you can see at some points it was “painted” over, and at others it carries on. I think they took an old sci-fi post apocalyptic concept and just painted over it, adding the big lodge at the right and the couple of dolyaks.

Flame Legion + Dredge = Fused Technology
Inquest + Pirates = Electric/Flying Technology
Svanir + Flame Legion = Superior Building Technology

….

Seems pretty obvious it’s just an oversight because that is a crane.
