I’ve been wondering, how did Sohothin, Prince Rurik’s sword end up in an imploding/exploding ring of fire to Rytlock Brimstone? I mean, It pretty much traveled over 100 miles too the Black Citadel on it’s own?
It should’ve technically been destroyed in the ring of fire but no, it magically teleports itself to the Plains of Ashford.
Any information would be nice, can’t find any.

Nothing says he found it in Plains of Ashford… in fact, I find that very, very unlikely. The fact that he refuses to talk about it suggests that there is very much a story behind him having it, rather than it simply being something he tripped over one day.

Yeah, I would actually like to hear in the living story or maybe just a short conversation in the open world between two Charr Lieutenants or something how he actually retrieved it. ArenaNet, there’s living world season 3 done. Go make it :P

We got an answer during the Living Story.
The answer was: Irrelevant.

Krall Bloodsword – Mesmer
Krall Peterson – Warrior

It’s irrelevant to the task at hand at the time. But I have a feeling we will know about it. Even if the true story behind it was that he found it at a bazaar and had to pick a fight with the storekeeper just to give him a good deal on the sword. XD

FOR SKYRIM!!!!!

Well since the sword and Rytlock are both still a big part of the Living Story I say we might get an answer to that before the “end”.

I think the comment of Plains of Ashford came from Logan claiming Rytlock looted it from Ascalon.

And it should be noted that it is possible the sword Rurik had at death and undeath was not Sohothin but a regular FDS, Ascalon did have many of the things after all.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

The question is however how it got into his hands

let`s say that the original rurik died 250 years ago in charr land and the sword stayed with his body.
The one we fought was an resurrected undead holding one. either a real one or a replica.

if it was still in ascalon, then who looted it in between?
He was killed by stone dwarfes at the frost gate, so they could held possession of it.

Maybe we get more answers if we delve down that way.

However if it was the real one at the fire isles, then it is a much bigger mystery.
How it got there is pretty obvious. Magical lich powers.
However, how did it get back from there?

Sute, there were several “henchmen” there, who were able to get a hold on it. People like the Ascalon All Stars were present and one of them could have brought it back home.

Maybe one of his ancestors tried what Rytlock was trying and died by an ancestor of Rytlock.

There are several stories here, that do not have to be so complicated.

I think it likely a similar story to the Scepter of Orr, in that due to the magic it possessed the scepter/sword could transport itself away from danger into someplace safer. due to having spent a period of time in their respective regions and with Orr being underwater I believe the scepter and the sword both choose the Maguuma Jungle and Ascalon respectively.

it’s also not that far-fetched, as we have literally seen not only Magdaer effectively freeze an entire human nation in time through their souls but Sohothin also opens a portal and transports itself through, with Rytlock jumping in after it. The Scepter of Orr is seen perfectly safe and sound in the Maguuma by Lydia even though it was at the very heart of a volcano during its eruption when we last saw it before.

Artifacts from Orr are extremely powerful magical items, and such power can also have a semblance of sentience. perhaps Sohothin wanted Rytlock to find it rather than another human. Perhaps the Scepter felt Lydia to be the best candidate to wield it rather than a chosen hero who kept it safe before.

All I’m going to say is, this would’ve been a better back story and more interesting than Caithe’s

Carlin’s thought is pretty much my own. We saw the Scepter of Orr teleport away before the volcano erupted, whether through its own auspices or by Glint’s will. In the former… it makes sense that it would return to Ascalon, although it probably wasn’t intending to be retrieved by a charr. In the latter… Glint may well have placed it somewhere she knew Rytlock would find it.

To those who think Scarlet hate means she’s succeeded as a villain:
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.

All I’m going to say is, this would’ve been a better back story and more interesting than Caithe’s

It’s interesting you say that. There has been a lot of speculation about Rytlock’s sword, the Foefire curse and how all those pieces fit together. I don’t recall much interest in Caithe and Faolain’s past or what drove Faolain to Nightmare and Caithe to reject it. It’s always been there in the game (in the vision of Orr part of the Personal Story all of DE have some issue from their past they deal with and it’s always each other, except for Caithe who is turning back to Faolain) but I rarely see anyone take an interest in it and Caithe’s relationship with Faolain was still one of the least discussed topics from the last release (people didn’t like Faolain, some were disappointed she seems almost identical then to her personality in TA, few people even comment on Caithe specifically).

I suppose Caithe’s history is being told now simply because it links her to Glint or the forgotten or w/e current plot is not being told this season.

Nothing says he found it in Plains of Ashford… in fact, I find that very, very unlikely. The fact that he refuses to talk about it suggests that there is very much a story behind him having it, rather than it simply being something he tripped over one day.

I have a feeling ArenaNet didn’t know where he found it, just that he had it. I think they launched GW2 wanting Rytlock, the charr hero, to hold the Ascalonian sword that once belonged to the most sympathetic Ascalonian hero (Rurik as opposed to Adelbern) because the poetry of the idea (it feeds Logan’s story, it pulls at the strings of the Ascalonian ancestry story so many GW1 players identify with, it has dynamics with the human/charr peace talks and it complicates the legend about cleansing the Foefire). Maybe they had a vague idea of how the sword made its way to Rytlock, but specifically I think it just is that way.

As far the sword being destroyed goes, it’s a powerful Orrian artifact not to mention it’s a flaming dragon sword, I doubt it’s that easy to destroy.

I have a feeling they are setting up the sword plot to be explored in an upcoming expansion.

Eh, I think the back story was basically slipped in because of scarlet mentioning caithe’s dark past during the dungeon run. There was speculation on it at the time, but after what, a year? Mostly everyone stopped caring. Then it was placed here like “oh ho! Thought we forgot bout this?” When I at least thought “no, not interested about it anymore. You brought up the topic on the sword again, tell us that”

Caithe BG basically had its chance, but fell through the cracks. And to suddenly spring it on us….

I think it’s more to do with that they where made for GW2 and have to be shoehorned in to every story, seeing they have no real lore. But I agree Rytlock’s story will be one GW1 players will be intrested in.

Can’t you guys just wait until the 13th? I mean they’ve teased the release with Rytlock’s picture, so chances are we could learn something new about him then.

Oh and we might get another teaser tomorrow…

They teased the last release with a pic of him too, but that just turned out to be all about Caith. Maybe we will get something, but I’m not holding my breath, unless this update is massive. The last few have been very short.

I don’t want to say massive, but supposedly big, going by the trailer. First, its back to the priory to find out how to open the door, chances are in that part, the ghost will appear. The next two parts can be either or. We will go to the cave and unlock it, then do caiths memory, confront her, and the big reveal of the egg. Then the pact base will be attacked, and we must run to save it. Chances are, one more piece then, either fighting the shadow dragon, fighting that weird massive flower monster we saw, or seeing mord rise.

Either way, if no new info is learned of rytlock in it, it gets a -1 automatically. Bring back the kitten of DE already.

Then, chances are, the silverwastes may expand a bit more, and/or a boss event after breach event.
