Any theories as to the 2 red swirling vortexes of energy (slightly resembling ley energy) flowing into the Destruction’s Maw Volcano in Ember Bay are? They seem to be coming from the East and the West of the Islands.

And where are they flowing to? Primordus?

Ley-line energy is still kind of weird. Do we know why their streams started appearing above ground? Before HoT, we never saw the leylines appearing. Then they started sprouting everywhere (but mostly the new maps because, well, they’re new).

Anyway, it could be that Destruction’s Maw is a very strong magical location. It might even be a node of some kind. I don’t have leyline gliding myself, so I couldn’t even try to glide along those paths, but maybe someone brave enough could try?

This actually goes back to Magic being like Light. What we see as the Red Leyline is actually the Fire aspect magic of the Leyline Magic energy.

We know a lot of Magical energy is moving South into the Unending Ocean location for some reason but that may be a hint to what is soon to arrive.

Edwin, good point, I hadn’t thought of that.

Those are golden, like seen at Slothasor in raids, or the three golden strands at the various coalescence events, or above/blow the center altar in the Cavern of Unseen Lights. Unfortunately you cannot glide along golden ley lines.

It looks red because of the red sky. But if you go up there you can get a better look.

As for directions, one roughly comes from Abaddon’s Mouth (aka the bloodstone, interestingly) and the other is coming from Istan/along the Elonian shore (but not hitting it) if they go straight from last visibility.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Wow, I never considered that they were actually gold and it was just the red sky masking the true color. I’ll have to head back up top to take a closer look as you said Konig.

Since we only really know the location of 3 of the bloodstones (Maguuma, in the Ettin cave somewhere near sparkfly fen as seen in GW1, and Abbadon’s Mouth), do you think the other direction could be one of the other 2 stones?

Theoretically plausible. Question would be why would there be two bloodstones feeding that relatively new volcano (it didn’t exist in GW1).

We’ll, in all likelihood it must have existed in Guild Wars 1. I mean the island may not exist on the maps, but there is a Mursaat fortress there predating Guild Wars 1. I would chalk this island up to something along the lines of Southsun Cove. Something just recently discovered.

That’s one of the lore inconsistencies in this release.

Captain Grumby’s dialogue even implies that it’s part of the Onyx Gate – the inner part we fight Optimus Caliph at even.

Which would mean that the islands shifted. Theoretically plausible, but in 250 years? Not with that great of a distance.

Yeah, it’s not like some magical force can raise a giant landmass that got buried by the sea. Oh, wait…

As far as the landscape goes, I’m willing to blame most of it on “magic” and leave it be. However, the closer it is to the original game, the better. I get so nostalgic whenever I wander past the Badazar statue in Ashford. How many times did I walk along those paths, unable to climb the hills as we can now?

Also, the island kind of exploded after prophecies. That probably shifted a few things around.

My issue is that Abaddon’s Mouth (the volcano that had the Onyx Gate, the bloodstone, and so on) actually has been on the GW2 map art since launch- and Ember Bay is nowhere near it.

I’m not sure what we’re seeing in GW2 is the Onyx Gate or some other stronghold. But even if you use Ember Bay as a reference, it kind of looks like they put a lot of stuff on the wrong island entirely :/
So, Onyx Gate or not, the new area looks wrong.

It seems to be ley-line energies flowing into the volcano, likely directly feeding Primordus (like when Mordremoth fed on ley-energy in that old cutscene). While they seem to come from the direction of the bloodstones, I doubt the magic is directly flowing from them; unless the White Mantle has started mining those stones too… or they spontaneously cracked.

I’m not sure what we’re seeing in GW2 is the Onyx Gate […]

It’s definitely not the Onyx Gate, as stated in one of Cami’s journals.

My research has found a thread between magic and the mind. The two are linked.

I doubt the magic here is directly feeding Primordus, at least not intentionally. I think this volcano is just a natural confluence of key energy, which seems to be proven with the “rock face’s” description. Seeing as he seems to describe this magic as having been a problem with the volcano long before Primordus came to the region.
