I don’t know how to load up pics here, so I used a different website.

However I decided to explore the area around the Temple of Ages again and the statues are different than they were in GW1. Of course the temple is sunken now so heights might be a problem, but it is not only that. Here are the pictures (klick to larger pics):

GW1:

Gw2:

The statues stand different to each other. So the Dwayna Statue in GW2 is, where the Melandru Statue in GW1 was. On Dwayna-Statue place is now a Kormir Statue which was not even there in GW1 (because Kormir ascended 3 years after Prophecies). So did they build a Kormir Statue there in the time between GW1 and when the temple sunk? The Melandru Statue is in the place of the old Balthasar Statue which is completly gone. What happened to the statue of balthasar, why is it gone and why is the melandru statue there instead?

I’m extremly curious about what happened here. I#m looking to find some npc’s.

Flooding…
Water is pretty powerful when it comes in torrents, could have crumbled and uprooted statues like nobodies business

When this is the case: Why is the melandru statue just placed somewhere else but not damaged? The other statues are not damaged either.

If you really want to look into this, maybe Melandru is the nature goddess, so her statue was unaffected by nature’s events, and Kormir is the goddess of water, so same for her
IMO, there’s no big story behind the disappearance of statues/displacement, it’s just to give a little easter egg for GW1 fans

Kormir is the goddess of water,

No she’s not. Grenth took over water after the first fall of Abaddon.

Don’t mess with Ascalon!

Didn’t she take it over when she took over Abaddon’s powers in NF?

Not his powers over water. He lost that when he got thrown into the realm of torment. But apparently Lyssa took over water from Grenth or something.

Lyssa has control over water, grenth has control over ice. This is different from Guild Wars 1 where the only control of water was Grenth’s control over ice, because Lyssa was only said to have control of chaotic non-elemental magic.

My stance on the Temple of Ages is that it is not in the same place that it was before. Either a sink hole appeared under the hill that the temple was on (my personal preference, and rather likely in a major flooding situation), or the hill was washed out, and the territory was sunk into the swamp by the erosion of the rock. Another possibility, one that isn’t brought up often, is that it has something to do with the weakening of the barrier between our world and the underworld.

Also note that a long stretch of time has passed between when the temple was accessible to us in GW1 and just before the rise of the dragons. It’s entirely possible that the statues were simply moved for aesthetic or political reasons.

Remember that the temple was built by humans to honor the gods. The fact that the gods accepted that place doesn’t change the ability of those people to change the temple.

As for the melandru statue it’s likely placed there for aesthetic effect with no thought as to why it didn’t sink. The “immune to nature” explanation wouldn’t hold much weight as there is at least one (possibly more) flooded statue of melandru in the world. The Quaggan have taken a liking to it and even adopted a version of melandru based on that statue.

Ok, I was just making up reasons as to why they were there
I wholeheartedly believe it’s just flooding/whatnot, there’s really no significance as to why the others are gone

Was the Kormir statue added in Guild Wars version of the Temple of Ages?

If it was not, then the implication is that it was at some point during the last 250 years.

Also on the subject, take a look at the Temple of Ages section:

It makes sense that since the people of Kryta have come to fully believe the story of Kormir’s ascension in Nightfall, that they would eventually build a statue to Kormir there. Sadly with the world being stuck in time in GW1, no physical change happened that we could see with our own eyes.

The only players that would really care would also really want to look into it.^^

A sink hole wouldn’t explain, why statues changed places. I think something weaken the barriers to the underworld would be a better explanation, as one of the seven reapers of grenth just says such things. Also there are a lot of underworld protals around grenth statues (in lornar’s pass as well).

It wasn’t so they had to build it later.

It’s not only that melandru’s statue isn’t sunk (it’s leaned by the way) it’s on the place of the old balthasar statue (which ist gone), too. So the humans must have replaced it, or there was a giant wave.

It makes sense that since the people of Kryta have come to fully believe the story of Kormir’s ascension in Nightfall, that they would eventually build a statue to Kormir there. Sadly with the world being stuck in time in GW1, no physical change happened that we could see with our own eyes.

That really makes sense, yes.

So we are at the point that we can’t explain, why the balthasar statue is gone, which is important, as it were a portal to the fissure of woe that is one of the places that has a very big portion of lore that spreads its roots into many places of guild wars. So I don’t think we can’t just go by and say the place is just a easter egg, because it is such an important place for the whole world.

I have to say that the easiest explanation to the missing statues is that they either fell over and were buried in the mud of the swamp or they sank into the mud all together.
