Any reference to real persons are probably intentional and worthy of a libel suit.
Okay, I think most people who played Nightfall have at least heard of Suwash the wannabe corsair, and found in GW2 that there is another NPC with swashbuckling ambitions by the name of Suwash, only this time he’s a quaggan, as opposed to a human.
However, I’m not sure that Suwash is said quaggan’s real name as “Suwash” doesn’t sound like a quaggan-y name, not enough "oo"s or "ee"s. At this moment, I can think of a few possibilities:
1) Suwash (human) became an (in)famous, well-known corsair/Sunspear/something else, and Suwash (quaggan) took up the name to become more piratey or something.
2) Suwash (quaggan) found a sunken crew log or other document with the name “Suwash” on it, and he like the name so much he took it for himself.
3) Suwash (human) did a huge favour for one of Suwash (quaggan)’s ancestors before the quaggans were pushed into Kryta and other areas, and it became family tradition that one (or more) of the descendants be named Suwash.
4) Some weird coincidence.
So yeah, discuss what happened to Suwash (human). I’m pretty sure that when we go back to Elona, all will be revealed, and the same will probably go for Cantha and Jatoro Musagi (assuming he didn’t live out the rest of his life on Istan). Until then, speculate away!
Or it’s just a reference to Nightfall, I don’t care, I had a big smile when I saw him.
Being that the Quaggan are a sea-faring race, I think it’s a more than reasonable assumption that the original Suwash at some point encountered them on his adventures and managed to make quite a name for himself among their people. As a result, the name was considered an “excellent name for a pirate” and taken up by our young Quaggan errm… “hero”.
Some how, I see this occurring more from the Human Suwash reciting some rather enthralling, highly exaggerated stories of his own adventures, rather than actual deeds being witnessed, but you never know!

This is how all pirate legends form, isn’t it? Heh.
Also, yeah, I’m hoping to hear more about the Legend of Jatoro. He was the most epic wannabe in all of Tyria.
