Where are we at now lore-wise when it comes to sylvari’s clothing? Is it part of their bodies, or do they make it out of plant matter they find lying around? In this case, I’m obviously not referring to the armor you get throughout the game that’s the same for every race. I’m wondering about the town clothes, the race-specific leafy armor, the conveniently-placed little leaves over their private parts.

If it is a part of their bodies, then why do scholar professions wear armor at all? Heavy armor makes sense, as mail would theoretically provide more protection than leaves, but light armor is just cloth.

If it is not a part of their bodies, then why the duck do they make their clothing out of plant matter? xD It doesn’t seem like a very long-lasting or durable material.

I don’t think it’s part of their body. You start the game naked after the tutorial mission and say something along the lines of “In the dream I had a certain attire…”, and then they hook you right up. It shows you in your undies then but I think that’s just to keep the game family friendly.

I don’t know much else on this topic, though I think I might remember someone mentioning Sylvari sex organs (can’t remember).

Sylvari can and often do grow their own clothing right out of their skin.

They can also create armor externally out of plant material, be it wood or leaves or something else.

They can make normal armor too.

Sylvari do have sex organs, but they can’t reproduce with them.

So they’re more like “fun organs”, yesplz.

I have a question related to this question though. Lore-wise how protective is Sylvari “heavy” armor? Like… they look like leaves… but…

???

Growing one’s own clothing takes time, effort and concentration. Finding a tailor to make a set of clothing can be a lot simpler and quicker. Handmade clothing can be practical in ways self-grown clothing might not be, and it can certainly be beautiful in distinct ways.

On the other hand, clothing that grows out of your body is easier to repair, as it would heal like the rest of you, so even if it is less durable (which is not certain), that’s less significant.

Whether they are actual leaves crafted into clothes or leaves grown from their body it does not really matter. What matters is that is ugly and dyes horribly :/

Sylvari do have sex organs, but they can’t reproduce with them.

Source? I remember one of the sylvari dev posts saying if you took off the bra leaves/flowers, you wouldn’t find nipples.

Ree Sosbe(or however you spell her name) has repeatedly said that Sylvari can and do have sex. They just can’t reproduce. You can probably find something like five different sources with a quick google search.

Edit: No they don’t have nipples, but they have everything else.

They are only race in game which hints at same sex love stories, they don’t seem to have a definite sex disparity but they regard each other as living entities where physical aspect is just a form? (as in they love in the purest feeling sense of being attached / having feelings for something / someone and not based on physical aspects).

I read many of their blogs prerelease and I think it is AMAZING that they can sprout their “attire” from their bodies. When you look at the cultural armor, it melds with your characters skin as if you grew it out of your own body.
