Just had an interesting thought looking through some posts about Sylvari lore and biology.

Obviously we know they don’t reproduce like animals, but perhaps some Sylvari could be born with a particular affinity to a previous individual, couple or group of Sylvari and feel like their child. A bit like Nightmare recruits who are born with an inclination to join the Nightmare Court through their Dream.

For example, a strong love between two Sylvari is sent to the Dream and a new sprout receives this more than anything else, who then feels an affinity to the two and feels they’re his or her parents. This would be an odd dynamic as the sprout would be unexpected by the ‘parents’, a bit like a grown child finding their parents who didn’t know the child was alive (or in this case, even born!) Of course it wouldn’t be like any animal parent-child relationship as Sylvari are born fairly self-sufficient, but it could lead to some interesting storylines, I think.

Or perhaps in that example the sprout is particularly inspired by the love, feels an affinity to one of the couple and is thus inspired to find his or her own love. Are there any Wyld Hunts based on love? Sylvari born with a vision of who they’ll form a relationship with?

Anyway, an interesting idea I thought. I’d also like to see some more Sylvari stories and lore in the game, it’s a shame there’s little relevance to races post-level 30 or so in the game. Perhaps in later expansions and living story additions!

Any thoughts? =)

Well, Sylvari are born with certain ideas about other sylvari. Like I believe that because of their similar Wyld Hunts Trahearn and Caithe feel much like brother and sister, whereas Caithe and Faolain came out of the tree with a more intimate relationship. We don’t know how exactly these form, but I’m sure there would be a mixture of sylvari being born with relationships already made and sylvari being born and making new relationships. I do not think that the specific relationship you are talking about has appeared yet in the game. The only type of parental figure that sylvari seem to possess is their mother, the Pale Tree.

I liked that idea. I would be intrigued if they ever showed something like this happening.

A lot of people would like a lot less sylvari in the game’s story, heh. I’m fond of them myself, but they do rather take a lot of spotlight in the story so far.

I’m not sure how I feel about the idea of sylvari ‘parents’ being conveyed in the Dream – it doesn’t fit for me, somehow. However the idea of a Wyld Hunt based on love (such as ‘find this person, you Dreamed of them, they’re your soulmate) would make a fantastic sylvari saga. Which I now want to write. Heh.

I don’t really feel like a parental connection between Sylvari would really work. They’re all meant to be like children in a way (obviously not in a lot of other ways). But I think the connection between Sylvari is very much that of friendship and occasionally as if they’re siblings. Especially when you look at the firstborn who all treat each other like close brothers and sisters, and they in turn end up feeling like older brothers and sisters to the rest of the Sylvari (at least to me).

With your idea of Wyld Love Hunts I kind of like it xD. I do actually recall reading or listening to Ree Soesbee say something that sort of suggested that some Sylvari meet another and just KNOW that that is the person they want to/are meant to be with.

I also imagine that there are a lot of Sylvari who have met another Sylvari in the dream and then found each other afterwards because they have strong feelings from back in the dream. (Mind goes to the numerous Sylvari NPC’s who say “I know you from my dream” – Perfect Sylvari pick up line right there)
