Tengu discussion
I think he was just saying that they would either have to make it so it makes sense that Tengu can play through the orders/racial sympathy/orr stuff and killing zhaitan even though they weren’t there, or just not let Tengu players be able to play that storyline
I was very happy to see that myself when I completed the game
If it doesn’t mean playable tengu, then it at least means more interaction with them.
By and large they weren’t there… but I think it’d work if just one more was. After all, you have those above pictures – there was at least one already.

yes please! 3 out of 5 races are too human-like. A more exotic race would mix it up.
This brings to mind questions…what would the other races think of tengu? I’d love to hear the Charr response on how they are. Would they be considered a race worthy of respect, or one the Charr disrespect constantly like humans?

Depends. Could Tengu beat up Charr like Norns can? Then they’d get some respect.

Norn and asura are really the only races charr respect to begin with. Humans they disrespect on sheer principle, given their shared history, and they seem to see sylvari as too young or flowery to respect.
Norn are respected for their strength, while asura are respected for their technology. The tengu would have to bring something like that to the table for the charr to pay attention to them at all.
And a man who trusts no one is a fool.
We are all fools, if we live long enough.”
I would think given their sort of samurai-inspired outlook, Tengu would impress Charr with their discipline and unshakable resolve…
“There are only 8 Tengu guarding that gate… We hit them hard and it’ll scatter them like chikens!”
“Listen cub, do you know how many Tengu that means we’ll have to kill? Eight. Every last one of them, because Tengu don’t run. Ever. And you know what happens after you’ve killed seven? The last one still has better than even odds of pecking out your eyes after you’ve broken his sword and chopped both his wings off. We’re not making a move ’till the chuggers get here. All of the chuggers.”
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Wut u talkin’ ’bout?
Go into Vigil Keep, there’s a tengu there! Remember Izu Steelstrike? There’s a tengu there! And to paraphrase Izu (using as accurate wording as I can remember): Individuals may join the cause, but the tengu race as a whole would not.
So they don’t need any time lapse or whatever for tengu – and largos, for that matter. And kodan, for that matter (there’s a kodan in the Chantry of Secrets and you know how they are about spreading balance and fighting Elder Dragons). Just gotta make them some lvl 1-30 personal story steps and then do voice acting for everything else. Maybe some changes if largos become playable with interacting with Sayeh (I can easily picture Sayeh becoming the largos’ “mentor” figure to replace the Destiny’s Edge figure – as well as he joining Destiny’s Edge later in the storyline after Zhaitan’s defeat, to keep a “close eye” on some “possible prey” – especially when the DSD becomes the target).
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Thank you Konig! I found the tengu in the Vigil keep and added him to the gallery.
Tengu Gallery updated, there are now about 20 new images involving tengu.
OK so here is an idea for introducing the tengu into the game. First, the devs make a monthly living story patch where primordius starts creating tremors (i know he is fire, im talking about how his minions emerge from the ground) and because of that, it forces the tengu to start to worry because the tremors are greatly affecting them.
Secondly, this would also bring back the dwarfs maybe, because they probably need reinforcements if the destroyer surfaced.
Next, the tengu start getting attacked and as a result, they ask the other races for help and in the patch, they join the vigil, order of whispers, and the durmand priory. Finally, they show a trailer, for an expansion, with a bunch of dwarfs running into rata sum looking for reinforcements and then we see primordius burst from the ground all kitten ed and flamey.
In the expansion, we are then able to play as the tengu and start a bunch of new quests and stuff going further into the maguuma (north) because in edge if destiny, we learn that one of his (primordius) champions was stationed right out of rata sum.
Just so anyone who reads this is clear, this is all a guess and just an idea.
I sure hope that they use the Living Story as a way to introduce the expansion as it approaches, and I agree that the Tengu are a prime choice for a playable race in the expansion that goes against Destroyers. The sad thing is, there isn’t an expansion in the works at the moment, and with their focus so strong on the Living Story/Making this form of the game work better, I find it hard to believe that will show for a long time.
Err… nope. There is an expansion in the making:

A fantasy of sci-fi cyborg implants grafted into the desiccated flesh of Guild Wars’ corpse.
I apologize, I had heard the opposite somewhere else. That being said, I do get the feeling that the expansion would still be a ways out. I could be wrong, and it could come fast, but I personally expect ArenaNet to release it “When it’s Ready!”
