I had just a random thought. (Time is short so my post will be the same)
But I was wondering if since the death of Zhaitan, Tequatl might be trying to fill the void left behind and become the new elder dragon for his realm/area of expertise. It would be the most logical explanation (from my limited knowledge on the subject) for why Tequatl only got stronger after the death of the one who essentially controlled him, and why (aside from the mechanics of separating the main story from people who have completed it and people who have not) there are still so many zombies that seem to be organised enough to only attack intruders in Orr and not either drop dead and rot (with their control being gone) or devolve into mindless zombies that just eat each other.
I don’t imagine the GW team would really go very far in that direction (i.e. making Teq a main boss later in the GW timeline) but I thought it might be something to think about I guess. And I have some time to kill before running errands.

That is one of the more popular theories, more or less.

But dragon minions don’t just drop dead with their control gone – this was a point made throughout. When dragon champions are slain, minions become sporadic and/or retreat; and as we see with Zhaitan and are told at the end of the personal story and see in Arah explorable, the risen’s only difference is that they cannot spread corruption (as easily) – they still revere Zhaitan as they did before his defeat.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Tequatl and other Dragon Champions will most likely try to take their precious master’s place and eventually consume enough magic to become Elder Dragons themselves. That’s my theory.

Tequatl has obtained new skills with some being Water based(at least one) implying it’s Death nature is crossing with a Water nature.

A Watery Undeath Elder Dragon would be a thing to behold….

Quite a lot of risen have non-necrotic skills though, Mickey, so I wouldn’t attribute much to Tequatl having water-based skills. Especially when they consist primarily of shockwaves or using necrotic grasps to pull one underwater.

Though I think Zhaitan’s magic will be said to be spreading throughout all risen. Early last year they had increased the size of Orrian risen, and made the temple events tougher. They could easily tie that into the Tequatl Rising plot (and if they’re smart, will). They also made them more shambling in their posture, which goes against the novel’s descriptions of them being all upright and the like.

So, Zhaitan is dead and re-dead. But then there is the real question: is the mantle of Elder Dragon passed on?

Anet doesn’t need a “crazy plot twist guy” when that guy doesn’t give crazy plot twists, or even just crazy, or just plot twists. If it’s something that half of the playerbase and their mothers thought up, it isn’t a plot twist.

A real crazy plot twist guy would be a writer who wrote a work which had it’s 2nd arc villain(who’s arc is much bigger and more impressive than the 1st arc villain) hinted to have a connection to the heroes leading said heroes to assume he’s one of their evil ancestors from ancient time only for said evil ancester to appear as separate from the arc villain who is now hinted to be a former ally who was killed off by the 1st arc’s villain. Then the former ally appears and is revealed to be zombified slave of the 2nd arc villain who immediately reveals himself to be the 1st arc villain all along.

As you said Konig: wouw isn’t a “crazy plot twist guy”.
