I was on a break from the game whenever this was implemented as a story quest, but I read the text from it, and it’s obviously something weird that happened on a convergence of the ley lines

is the anomaly itself at all significant to anything else in the game or referenced anywhere else?

Yeah.

I remember someone typing that it was just plain ol’ dragon energy retaliating against outside manipulations. That simplicity doesn’t sit with me, though.

It’s never explained what the anomaly is. Some folks like myself suspect it to be a lightning based djinn like those we saw in Nightfall due to its appearance and weapon.

There was a dev post during the voting of the two candidates that said that the Thaumanova fractal would show what happens when chaos magic meets the Mists and will produce interesting results. The anomaly may be said results.
