The Corpse Grove (BWE2 Spoilers)
Hmm. Still makes me wonder if the origin trees are a creation of Mordremoth or that they were an existing type of sentient tree it simply corrupted and repurposed into minion creation factories.
Any hints of a possible avatar for the Blighting Tree?
Wait hang on
“Mordrem Guard, at least the very powerful ones, use corpses as a blueprint to form their physiology”
If you’re saying these trees used corpses for the blueprint for their offspring does that mean that the Sylvari we play are based on Ronan to an extent?
Also for pure speculation, I wonder if there’s some sort of Prime Mordrem Guard that is used as a foundation to grow more Guards for each tree or whether each tree is able to produce it’s own guard and variants with the ability to modify it using different corpses. Or it maybe just a case of recycling the dead to create their troops
Because I can’t imagine a tree producing a guard that will then die to be used at another different tree because that would surely create mutations/undesired traits because it was a copy of a copy. Who knows

Ronan’s family to be exact. Ronan’s family died and Ronan planted the Pale Tree on top of their graves.
In the case of the Blighting Tree, it is hinted at that the pact soldiers who died in the attack are being used as blueprints, not just Diarmid.
With so many Sylvari I’m guessing the place where the Pale Tree was placed had a lot more bodies underground than was original thought.
We still don’t know what happened to most of the Druids of the Maguuma Jungle after all and only know that they died and became spirits. However, we never learned where did the Druids die.
However, we never learned where did the Druids die.
We never learned that they died so it is completely logical that we never learned where they died. Or are you talking about the physical bodies the druids left behind when they became spirits?

This is not neccesarily the case. If the bodies are only used as blueprints used for roughly similar humanoids instead of molds used for copies that are as similar as possible then variation makes sense.

If you want to see closeups of the pods hanging from the tree I have them here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/I-climbed-the-mordrem-tree-spolierish/
The whole event chain around this is really interesting. What the NPCs say after you fight the first Diarmid is quite interesting (don’t remember exactly what it was). I can’t wait for the story to see what all else we find out.

I’m talking about their bodies that they left behind when they became spirits.
The Druids had to leave their physical bodies behind to become their Spirit forms so where they left them remains unknown.
Back on Topic:
Considering the importance of that Tree I’m expecting we are going there for a HoT Main Story Mission to get our answers.
I’m still hoping we may see Malyck once again in HoT since he went searching for his Tree in the Maguuma Jungle in the Magus Falls

We actually see some of those physical bodies in Brisban Wildlands around The Shattered Henge. We even escort one druid back to its body.
Though why these bodies are treants and not their original human bodies – and what happened to said original human bodies – is a mystery. However, such bodies would be long decayed even by GW1’s time, most likely.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
well from what we seen so far it is not the flesh part of the body Mordremoth is interested in but the skeleton of the body.
Mordy may be using the skeletons as the base for his mordrems to give them their shapes.

It’s also been mentioned in the Itzel/Nuhoch lore, they’ve been burning the bodies of the dead so that Mordremoth can’t use them. There are some events where you see Mordrem in the shape of hylek – indicating that either Mordrem are being created from hylek bodies, or Mordremoth got some hylek to use as blueprints and the Itzel and Nuhoch are interpreting this as the bodies being used, even if the damage has already been done.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
Mordrem Guard are born just like sylvari – from a pod. They look like Mordrem Guard from birth. It doesn’t appear as though Mordrem Guard are “corrupted sylvari” (at least not exclusively) but rather they are born that way.
Maybe they’re born with it. Maybe it’s Mordremoth
