The Gods
The dialogue of Lyssa’s Muse from the Gate of Madness mission in GW1 pretty much sums it up:
Lyssa’s Muse: “There was a time when the gods walked the earth. Every thought and achievement was a gift of the gods.”
Lyssa’s Muse: “But now you must realize that our gifts are within you. Dwayna lives in your compassion, Balthazar in your strength.”
Lyssa’s Muse: “Melandru dwells in your harmony, Grenth in your justice.”
Lyssa’s Muse: “And in your inspiration, Lyssa is there.”
Lyssa’s Muse: “The divinity is within you. And so, we give you our blessing. That should suffice for the task ahead.”
Lyssa’s Muse: “And to you, Kormir, a most special gift.”
Lyssa’s Muse: “This is your world, now. This is your decision. You must make the choice that only a mortal could make.”
If the God’s were to solve people’s problems then nobody would try and fix anything. You also have to take into consideration that they are only the Human Gods, the other races probably wouldn’t look kindly upon having Gods that are not their own solving their problems – the Charr especially.
There’s also nothing to indicate that the Gods are more powerful than the Dragons. The Dragons could pose more of a threat to the Gods than to us? The Dragons could be more powerful than the Gods, etc.
Even calling them Gods can be somewhat of an issue. They’re certainly powerful beings, but there is a lot that suggests that Tyria and a lot of its inhabitants existed before their arrival on Tyria – so you have to question exactly how important they are to anyone other than the Humans. (Although I’m certainly not saying they aren’t powerful or important – just playing Devil’s Advocate and showing another side to the issue.)
They may have their hands tied with where-ever they are. They may no longer exist as physical beings. They may not want to face the Elder Dragons due to the whole “dragons consume magic” and the gods are basically “beings of powerful magic.” They may not be wanting to help because they’re tired of answering the humans’ every prayer and plight.
But most likely, they probably don’t want to interfere out of fear of what happened the last time they interferred – the Crystal Sea became a desert, the coast of the former sea becoming a poisonous land where only the dead and demonic can thrive (and wurms/elementals).
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Direct conflict between the Gods and the Elder Dragons would probably devastate the world.
I have a theory regarding that here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lore/My-Theories-on-the-Dragons/first#post2403021 (go to part 3)
Also, The Forgotten, (if there are any left), Worshipped the Human Gods in gw1. Not just humans worshipped them. Though, you are right, Not many races would appreciate the human gods comming back to Tyria to fight the dragons. The Jotun for example, believe that the gods took magic away from them, and would probably join the dragons against them, (though other sources say the Seers took the magic away).
last thing, the last time the gods interfered, It was Abaddon that gave humans magic, and it was the war between the other gods and Abaddon that turned the Crystal Sea into the Crystal Desert (I explain that in part 2 of that same thread). Well, Abaddon’s gone, so, that can’t be it. But the amount of Earth Shattering change the Gods brought with that one war would pale in comparison to fighting six dragons with the same power. That would do more damage than just letting the Elder Dragons rampage on their own.
