The Kodan
Unlike Tengu who don’t have a starting area (Wayfarer Foothills for example), they just have a city-type place. So the Kodan do have a higher chance of being playable, which I hope will come to fruition soon and learn more about them.
I highly doubt the Kodan have a higher chance of being playable over the Tengu. First you got a lot of similarities between the Kodan and the Norn, making the Tengu a much different race from the five we have to choose from now. And the Tengu do have more than a city place. They have to the south-east of Kessex Hills their “city-type place” of Dominion of Winds. And then if you notice, there’s a large area (blurred on the map and that we still can’t explore) big enough to be a zone that is situated right between Kessex Hills and Lion’s Arch, which could definitely be the Tengu’s early starting zone.
Though don’t get me wrong, I also think the Kodan are an amazing race. I’d be fine with them being added as a playable race, just don’t think it’l happen before the Tengu.
What might be the Tengu area is mostly water though, and Domination of Winds is obviously going the be their city area. But the city and starting area are touching for the other races, unless there is some sort of giant bridge that goes to the area between Kessex Hills and Lions arch with Domination of Winds. Where the Kodan say they will move south and that area is open to move in with an area to call a city and a starting area. But I want them both to be playable at some point, also the Quaggan but they seem less likely of the two :p but the Kodan are similar to the Norn but Kodan are more interesting than the Norn in my opinion.
i think there would be another problem with making the Kodan a playable race, namely they have very little space for customization. They are tall and have white hair, i can’t even tell the males from the females until i talk to them. I myself would still role one, but I expect relatively few people would aswell.
The main thing about the Norn is that they are big and strong. Having another PC race being big (Charr) and the myriad of big NPCs and monsters is bad enough. Newer races should be human-sized or smaller. (Either that, or allow Norn to become bigger, to reclaim that main thing for PC races!)
From what i remember from the blogposts before the launch, Kodan sounded more like spiritual extremists rather than spiritual wisemen….with all the stuff about will of koda and balance, and enforcing it by force if they see it necessary, or rather if their spiritual leader sees it fit (leader that can go and is known to have gone crazy)
But yea, propably not playable due to lack of customization and close resemblance to Norn… well untill Anet develops them further anyway.

If they ever move south like they are planning, they could move in that area next to Fields of Ruin and that area in the little valley near the Black Citadel(green patch surrounded on 3 sides of mountains below where the Citadel furnace is).
I dare say, that’s too warm for a polar bear society, I’m sure.

That’s the smallest kitten zone ever. Barely the size of a city, which is half the size of a zone.
I can see how you can make such a mistake if you don’t know of Claw Island, though, but Claw Island – a Lionguard fortress that’s part of the personal story – pretty much nullifies that little section as a zone. Maybe city, but that makes little sense. but then again, so does that gate in Lion’s Arch – since if that really did lead to the Dominion of Winds, then Garrenhoff – a port town with sea-based trade – would be cut off from the Sea of Sorrows. And since it isn’t, then that gate in LA doesn’t lead to the Dominion of Winds.
But directly south of where the Dominion of Winds is, that can be a zone for them (and the largos, who are imo also highly likely to become playable – more than kodan). Then again, the Dominion of Winds connects directly to a level 10 and a level 20 area, so you don’t really need a full zone as you just need a level 1-10 area for tengu.

This as well, really hurts kodan as a playable race. Same with their lack of cultural differences – note that each PC has their culture divided into aspects. Humans have both heritage and, more importantly, lifestyle (noble, commoner, street rat); charr have legions; norn have spirits; asura have colleges; sylvari have cycles.
Tengu have their houses, but what do kodan have? Nada.
And when it comes to customization of appearance, ogres have a better chance than kodan, as they actually have different models for male and female!
(note: we only see male tengu in GW2).
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
Ugh. So silly. The norn aren’t just dumb giants, there are people among them who are wiser than any charr, human, sylvari or asura (intelligence and wisdom are not the same) you will find. Norn culture doesn’t solely consist of drinking and bashing heads in, it is also a culture of mysticism and philosophy.
Abolish norn stereotypes!
