…they don’t fit with the lore.
I’m not here to complain about the new awesome looking living story update, but ‘the wings of the sunless’ don’t belong in Tyria. The holographic wings did, the asuran holographic technology is a common thing. But these fleshy appendages shouldn’t be sprouting from a human back.
How do you even obtain them? Do tiny moving wings fall from Tequalts toenails when you defeat him, or is there some wacky necromancer making them so you’d have a fun souvenir from the time you were almost eaten by a dragon champion.

From plush backpacks to 8-bit weapons, they all fit. But the wings don’t.

Because all other weapons and armor since the dawn of Guild Wars made perfect sense in lore…

Honestly, an armor or weapon skin making sense or not in lore has become the least of my worries, since you had such that didn’t since the days of Prophecies. They’re just cosmetic. Don’t take them for lore.

Want a lore excuse? Those wearing the wings were corrupted and have become Risen Knights.

Or, as the item name implies, are back items, fitted with belts, so you can use them as a backpack.

My friend DMs DnD Games a lot, and he always struggles to balance story, gear, and levels and such like that.

this doesn’t apply the same for MMOs since it’s not instance by instance where you can just change something, but for lore aslong as you have a creative mind you can find away to make it work. From something as simple as

“they grabed the wings and made them and used char circuitry and gears to make them run.” to “Half corruption cured but the wings lasted as a sign of ones fall” similar to Konig Des Todes’s explanation. All the way to Silly and almost stupid faceplaming Hybrid races explanations like “my mommy was a silvari who had leafy wings sprouted during her time part of the nightmare court (simular to the starting dragon) my daddy was a charr who saved her then… Plucked her rose bud against her will so to speak, And then they made me =D”

It works you just gotta find a way to do it.

but yeah Rhaegar’s is the best It’s still a back pack just looks different =D

and my opinion:

ANYTHING fits lore better than SAB weapons and backpieces

they destroy the epic feeling everytime i see one

They could simply be holographic wings with a different skin or magically modified to show Tequatl’s wings; a way for proud heroes to show off the prize from the enemy they have defeated.

They don’t fit lore, or you can’t think of a way they fit lore? As long as there is holographic technology, mesmer illusions, and magical enchanting, almost any type of armor can fit into lore.

Right, you’ve made your point, there are ways to tie it into the lore.

Frankly I just want wings that aren’t blue >> So I’ll take any excuse I can get

asuran technology has improved, colour holograms with no glitches, get as reward from defeating the big baddy

Holograms have always been transparent so I doubt that they’re holograms unless it’s mixed with mesmer illusions like the Watchknights.

But honestly, the wings make as much sense as the Sclerite Karka Shell backpack. Transportable tentacles related to crabs existed already, but rotting wings create problems? What?

Shh. I want to become a risen knight QQ.

As others have said, I much prefer items that fit the tone (like these Risen wings) over ones that may strictly fit the lore, but don’t fit the tone at all (the SAB weapons & backpack).

It could be Risen tissue extracted from Tequatl or normal Risen, and modified by a Necromancer to be (mostly) safe for use.

Could be cheap wiring and leather like cheap Halloween costume props.
