Guild Wars 2

So in recent years the GW1 Halloween quests seemed to be hinting at a few things (or screaming them from the battlements in one case). Particularly:

*Mad King Thorn and his minions have been trying to get back into the world permenantly.
*He really, really does not like Palawa Joko.

As the title says this is massive speculation but what if finally, after 250 years of trying they somehow succeed and bring Thorn out of the Underworld permenantly?

Only to find that Joko has been back in the world all that time and has succeeded in conquering most/all of Elona. I can’t imagine Thorn will be happy about that. I’m not quite sure what the issue is between the two of them but I imagine one of his first goals will be revenge.

Maybe he’ll recruit a bunch of random adventurers to bring with him (maybe as a “reward” for helping him get back to Tyria?) when he goes to overthrow Joko and “save” Elona.

Of course Thorn isn’t known as the Mad King for no reason and from what we’ve heard he wasn’t exactly the best ruler in Tyria’s history, so I assume sooner or later we’ll need to take him down too. But I can’t help thinking storming in with his army would be a fantastic was to introduce Elona to GW2.

I know it seems crazy but when you consider Thackery started out as a random festival quest giver, became a main character/hero and his descendant is one of the major GW2 characters it’s not totally out of the question for Thorn to influence the game too.

Oh, I do believe that he will have an influence on the game, I mean he already definitely has, but I highly doubt that he will be leading an army against Palawa Joko. The game developers mentioned that Thorn’s attempts to escape into the world had attracted “someone else’s” attention. My curiosity is who we are going to unleash on the world by following Thorn’s courtiers in their attempt to release him.

Yeah, from what I recall of past festival quests in GW1 (which I did not play that thoroughly, so I’m sure someone else will have more info) Mad King Thorn was generally tied up with the Underworld conflicts – Grenth and Dhuum, and suchlike – which have been brewing for a long time. Then again, we’ve had hints of festival or one-off events which may change the world, so I wouldn’t rule anything out.

I doubt they have Elona to show us this year, though :P

That’s very true, if they do release anything like that for an Elona expansion, it will definitely be at least a year or more down the road, but again, just so my position is clear, I highly doubt it. I feel more likely that our characters acting on behalf of the Mad King will trigger Joko to take some actions in the original Guild Wars that will lead to the Elona beyond expansion.
