I finally got my first Sabetha kill today was super hectic and i’m a Guild Wars lore nerd, and I get that the forsaken thicket is somehow connected to bloodstone magic…but Sabetha has a voice acted greeting that seriously unsettled me, as if it wasn’t enough that she’s a crazy pyromaniac bandit queen lady.

“You’ve fought hard to get here! Do you even HAVE any idea what is actually IN this compound?!”

More importantly, why does she care -WHAT IS IN THAT COMPOUND-?!?!

Subtle hints of the White Mantles presence is strewn all over the place and I’ve looked at the completed texts and get an idea where it’s going but what does it all mean? For real.

I get it, Sabetha captures the Pact squad leader (Whoever he is.) For some unknown reason, the other soldiers say they were spared because of his sacrifice ect, ect. But how does Sabetha a mad-woman wielding the most crazy flamethrower ever, fit into the White Mantle? Bandit’s have rarely been associated with them…and why would mere bandit’s care about kidnapping someone instead of pillaging them? How long was Sabetha and her ‘crew’ living in that part of Maguuma? So many questions not nearly enough answers.

The very core of the bandit group is that they’re just a front for the White Mantle. Every bandit outpost is united – whether the mooks realize it or not – and the bandit leadership are all White Mantle.

Sabetha is White Mantle. So are all the other bandits in the raid wings.

Is that true though? It would make more sense for her to be White Mantle, but I still feel like she was simply hired by the Mantle which is deeper in the compound itself along with whatever she describes. I just don’t see the direct link between her and the Mantle and I found her to be an interesting character, I wish we knew more.

Plus, Knuckles one of her ‘crew mates’ or rather lackeys comments on a certain disdain for his name and even offers to help us as the players before being cut off by Sabetha herself. Which suggests he doesn’t even want to be there to begin with. Most White Manyle cultists wouldn’t question what they’re doing, they’d just do it.

All bandits are financed by the White Mantle. The higher ranked ones seem to actually be White Mantle or directly deal with them. There’s comments that hint Sabetha had been beyond the wall (inside wing 2’s area), which she says is only for the worthy – this would place her as ‘one of the worthy’ which would no doubt mean ‘White Mantle and their sacrifices’.

As for Knuckles – I suggest watching the GuildChat about the story in raids, as it talks about Knuckles’ backstory. Further, throughout the game we see that the lower ranked bandits don’t know the truth behind the higher ranked bandits (that they’re White Mantle), and several times long before Knuckles we see bandits who show dissent and questioning their actions again. It’s probable that Knuckles is one of those who joined the banditry because of disdain with the crown (like many others – some given that disdain, ironically, by White Mantle actions), and ended up climbing the ranks – at which point he’d be in too deep to simply leave without consequence (this was something that the White Mantle had done more or less in GW1 as well – the lower ranked White Mantle never knew the full truth of their order, the whole deal of sacrificing the Chosen, but as they showed devotion and rose in ranks, they learned more and more – some managed to leave after the civil war broke out, but before hand there’s no indication of such).

Olias was also former White Mantle.
