As mentioned in a thread regarding the Lost Shores event, the Karka canonically appeared after Zhaitan’s defeat (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lore/No-Risen-Karkas/first#post1161441). So, this makes me wonder, how much time passed in the Personal Story from beginning to end? This is not how long it took YOU, but how long it took in-narrative—for lack of better words.

The thing is that despite the recommended level for some quests, I get the feeling that there isn’t much time between them (the Norn Tournament quests, for one.). Others feel like maybe a couple weeks or so could have passed, or something. For awhile, I thought maybe 6 months was an appropriate timespan to defeat Zhaitan. 1 month for racial story, 3 months of Order (and even then, I have problems with becoming a Warmaster this quickly), and 2 months for everything involving the Pact. My stuff feels a bit unevenly spread, but 6 months is still 6 months.

So, what do you guys think? How long do you think it took our characters to get from Divinity’s Reach/Rata Sum/The Grove/Ascalon/Hoelbrak to defeating Zhaitan over Arah?

I go with 2 years.

I have no idea where I get that time frame from, it’s just the impression I was left with for some reason.

I think it’s a year
That gives more time for the orders/pact stuff, but racial stuff I’d say is maybe 1-3 months.
I know there’s the magic of WP’s, but consider you have to trek to far off places back to the main city during the first 30 levels.

I think it also depends on the race you choose. My human storyline for example seemed much closer timewise, than my Norn storyline. 1-3 months sounds about right for it though, with the order storyline up to the second battle of claw island being maybe 4 months and the forging of the pact and invasion of Orr up to 5 months.
Together I’d say it’s a year max, probably less if halloween and wintersday are canonically after Zhaitan, like the Lost Shore event.

You don’t win friends with salad! Sorry I just got caught up in the rhythm.

I go with less than a year – Prophecies (after the Searing ofc) takes place for most of the year (the halfway point is noted to be the summer solstice, and Glint says at the end “late into the Season of the Scion” (aka late fall), but Factions is from late fall to sometime before the year ends. I can see GW2 taking roughly the same timepsan as Prophecies, if not a little more or less (not counting the 2 year gap from pre-Searing to post-Searing of course).

I would imagine that all content update happened after the main personal story – meaning Zhaitan’s defeat was before Halloween, and we know that the karka invasion followed Halloween given the state of the Lion’s Court.

If I recall correctly, the norn tournament storyline takes place over the course of a week – so I’d imagine that the other lvl 10-20 storylines would be similar.

Based on Wayfarer Foothills, Timberline Falls, and Lornar’s Pass, I believe that the game starts in spring, and those zones are in summer given the state of melted snow in the Shiverpeaks.

Given all this, I’d say that the main GW2 storyline takes place along the Tyrian equivalents of March/April through September at the longest. But the best way to determine this will be when/if we are ever given a year for Zhaitan’s death.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

I believe the bulk of time spent is in the Pact section, specifically the construction phase of the Fort Trinity and the airships. Especially the “new model” ship seen in the final mission.

Consider that it took approximately six years to build the Burj Khalifa.

Given that Asuran research and Charr production are superior to our own, I’ll be generous and say that the personal story spans a minimum of one to two years.

I would say in total a year. The reason is that I dfont see the biggest gap (between forging the pact and battle for fort trinity), doesn’t feel as long.

I know it takes time to reinforge frot trinity, build the asuran gates (though, construction at the other sides has actually started when you turned lvl 33 and visit your headquarter for the first time) and build the airships. I do think however it was a matter of 3 months maybe. The combined resource of the orders got the designs and resources needed for hand and building started early.

I have this feeling cause of the surprise the npc’s where showing that Zhaitan could launch a counterattack against fort trinity this quickly.

I’d say a year or two. The story feels really long (And it is).

In the second instance of The Source of Orr, when you return to Fort Trinity, Occam says “In the past few weeks, I’ve seen so much, learned so much.”

In other words, from Forging the Pact to The Source of Orr is a “few weeks.” So probably no more than 10 weeks (otherwise it’d be “few months”), but more likely to be 6-8, if not less.
