Fan Story – The Assassin of Rata Sum - Guild Wars 2 Screenshots - Vini Short Story
(edited by AegisRunestone.8672)
… which guild wars (2) book should I buy and read? As many know, I’m writing a fan story about my asura thief (link in sig). However, I feel like I’m only decent with the dialect (the way they talk) when writing it so I think getting a book would help me.
Any suggestions?
Edit: and if I’m misusing the word ‘dialect,’ forgive me.

Bookah bookah bookah
None of them, really.
For the most part, asura in the books are largely normalized. Playing GW1 would give a better view of stereotypical asura.
That said, I’d still suggest reading the books. They’d be either entertaining or informative in lore (I found GoA and SoS being entertaining and EoD was more informative with lore).
Ghosts of Ascalon would suit your wants most though.
regardless. i which they’d tell us more about the languages of the other races in-game. it would make choosing a race more than just a skin for the character.
like: if there are several words for hunt in Norn language, why aren’t they mentioned somewhere in the personal story of the Norn. Hunting is important for them after all.
But building a language is a lot of work and if it takes staff away from working on story and/or known issues then I’d rather have them deal with that first.

To OP: the first few chapters of Ghosts of Ascalon has Dougal Keane decrypting some old Asuran laboratory (Zinn’s if my memory is corrrect), but that’s the Ancient Asuran writing system that involved mathematics in their texts. It was still a very good book in my opinion.
I can only think of a maybe several possible key points when writing an Asura.
Asura only use ‘bookah’ to refer to stupid humans – and that’s the rude asura, not all of them.
Even though what a bookah is matches jotun or norn better.

“Bookah” is a large, loud, bellowing, and dumb imaginary creature that the Asura used to frighten their children. Since their surfacing, they use the term to refer to those they view as inferior beings, which to them is almost everyone who is not an Asura.
You’re only half true.
The term is never used towards a non-human. In either GW1 or GW2. At least, in large.
In fact, I believe in Ghosts of Ascalon it even says that most asura use it specifically in reference to humans.

Um… I recently played an event in Brisban Wildlands where you had to stop the creatures from massing out the malfunctioning portal. The female asura called the male asura a ‘bookah.’
That’s incorrect. The line is:
Gatekeeper: You double-checked my coordinates this time. And I verified the repairs you made to the quantum tunneling coils.
Tekki: Well, then let’s observe which one of us is the bookah. Firing the trigger switches…now!
Tekki: Oh, cogs and gears! What in the Eternal Alchemy is going on here?
Which could easily mean “let’s see which one of us is the stupid human here”.
I found this beauty of a thread a long time ago, and I feel it’s very useful in getting a feel for how the different races talk.
