Trophic Cascade In Tyria

My belief is that we are witnessing a war for magic between two incompatible systems within Tyria. The serpents are part of what scientific jargon calls a “top down” system of magic (or information) processing, wherein magic is regulated by apex predators. The Pale Tree processes magic from the “bottom up” (the tree and her children are not what science coins “heterotrophs” like the serpents, but “autotrophs”). In the past, it may have been that Tyrians gained access to magic through red-blooded creatures, such as the six gods and the serpents. Now, the rules are changing. The balance of magical power is shifting from the serpents to plants; plants which may not have origins on Tyria. In the same way that you can destabilize an ecosystem by introducing species foreign to it, Tyria is being destabilized by the work of a newly-introduced race of sentient creatures. Only time will tell how the new Tyria will look…
