Well, that’s an interesting idea as to who the asura is. IMO, this is the best culprit for the raving asura. However, it’s widely believed among the community that the zone is a post-apocalyptic Rata Sum of sort. So it’s not his lab, but perhaps he used his elementals and golems to take over the city, or something.

I think the problem I have with that theory is that it really doesn’t look like Rata Sum at all. The structure is so different. Although that’s not to say it couldn’t be a part of Rata Sum and that the rest has been destroyed/fell to the ground etc. Could always be a Rata something else also.
The only thing I really couldn’t even begin to theorize about is the Cat Golems. But I mean, everyone loves a good Cat right? Even Asura xD.
I always assumed he was a member of Dessa’s crew that she abandoned. The shock of actually seeing him and the abandoned lab again is why she panics and suddenly departs.

That’s always a possibility. But then her “I need to go” sounds a little more confused/panicky than shocked/worried panicky (that’s very nitpicky though xD).
Also she says that before she see’s him, so it kind of suggests that regardless of who he is, her reaction is caused by the ruins, which is where it gets complicated. I do feel like she could be from some strange alternate Rata Sum, simply because if you talk to her as a Sylvari she has no idea what you are.
Well, the biggest reasoning for it being Rata Sum is the Peacemaker jail. If it were some other place, the justification would be rather strange (for an asura, less so, but still). The rabbit, I think, is in the actual Rata Sum jail too.
Cat Golems could just be part of the insanity from the Asura. Goemm had some helper golems, who’s to say he didn’t make them into cats

Huh? It looks just like the College of Dynamics corner (the NW corner). At the bottom is the Peacemaker’s jail, and the second level (where the first cat golem is) would be the crafting stage.
Of course, there are a couple differences, such as a lack of the crafting stations, but overall I think off of memory it’s all the same. The only layout differences I see would be how to ascend levels (the inside ramps, especially the one with the laser-like stuff you gotta jump over), but the rest is fairly the same.
fell to the ground etc.
Actually, its the corner we’re on that fell to the ground – but its resting on a cliff, so the points we can fall off of would be going off of said cliff.

So I keep hearing. But when I go to the jail I see a chicken who’s owner is unknown, an asura who doesn’t know what he’s done, a bear form norn who’s called a “talking bear,” and another mad scientist asura.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
I assumed he went crazy in post catastrophe rata sum because he is the only one left alive, the “breached, broken, falling dying!” part sounds like rata sum was invaded by something, which I got the impression was either managing to lob asura off or destabilize the hovering mechanics that keep rata sum aloft. He says “you can’t be here” because he thinks everyone is dead and he is all that is left (hence the crazy). he survived by being in the most fortified spot it seems. But this is all conjecture.

Thanks for clearing that up.
All I knew is that it definitely wasn’t Rata Sum in it’s entirety. My brain is still having a little trouble envisioning what one section would look like separated so maybe I’m going to have to go do some more running around Rata Sum.

This had been my speculation as well. Funny, my boyfriend and I were just talking about it the other day and I started with, "did you notice how Dessa kind of freaks out…? etc etc and then ended with my “theory.”
