Utopia
You’ll have to look at the gw1 wiki for info on that one
It was, like you said, an expansion for gw1, but instead, anet had so many ideas they decided to make gw2. We don’t really know much more than that, but the few things we do know are cool
Back in gw1 days, every new expansion brought two new professions (assassin and ritualist, dervish and paragon) and I think Utopia had a chronomancer, not sure if there was a second one. Based on the few concept art pictures there are, it was going to be an aztec/mayan themed continent, after we’d already seen asian and african inspired continents.
I think some of the ideas from that did make their way into gw2, one being the asuran architecture, which is reminiscient of the mayan pyramids
The other profession was supposed to be the summoner, IIRC. I think some of his spells went into the Asura PvE skills, like summoning the djinn and so on.
Utopia was scrapped as a full-blown campaign and GW1 in favor of the EoTN expansion and development of GW2. Much of the architecture, concept art, and design goals of the expansion were reused and can be scene in the Tarnished Coast areas of GW1 + GW2 though.
The problem with the lore of Utopia is that it got cancelled, but many ideas (specially lorewise) where used for both the Eye of the North expansion (specially the asuran race and culture) as well as GW2. The development of GW2 took a long time, and it is very likely that only a few elements of the originally lore made it to the game as it is today. We even don’t know if the asuran’s themself where part of Utopia in the original concept or that they only used the artwork and put the asuruan’s in that artwork later.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
I think there may be a pretty good chance that the Utopia continent could make an appearance in Guild Wars 2, after all they did spend quite a lot of time on it before switching production to the sequel.

hmmmmmm, no they didnt spend much time at it, especially compared to the eotn and GW2. Most of the things they made so far and where good enough have been recycled. This goes from skins, to mechanics, to skills, to professions. the things that remain will be rejected ideas. Do you really want to see rejected ideas in the game??
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Utopia looked good, it was an aztec themed jungle; but instead they used it for the asura architecture and zones
I still wish that they make Utopia sometime… i was upset to find out it was canceled…
As their mother, I have to grant them their wish. – Forever Fyonna
It would be nice if they posted more of what they had in mind for Utopia such as the plot and the backstory of the new land. Their isn’t much known about it, and we can only speculate from the concept art

I think they made the right choice to go with gw2, since 1)adding two more professions and more skills would be extremely taxing on the team’s ability to balance out the game, and 2) they were right there is only so much they can do in the world of gw1.
I’d love it though if they would have someone write a book on this campaign, even if it would not be canon to the main games. Never going to happen though, but I am curious as well
I too would like to see something of utopia make it into the GW2 lore and play. They wouldn’t have to bring new classes and skills from it, but just make it an explorable area with new lore. If you’ve seen the Tyrian globe you know there’s tons of land out there for them to expand on. There was lots of talk about an island far to the northwest of Tyria on that globe that could have been Utopia (there was rumors floating around about that was the general direction the Utopia land was supposed to be).
~Surrender fiend and you will get an easy death
~I could promise you the same…but it would be a lie…
Of course, we don’t actually know whether it’d be called that… but there is other land out there that may show up in later releases. It’s a big world.

Utopia was going to be an expansion with an aztec theme but they scrapped it and made Eotn and developed gw2
