So, I’m a bit curious about Uzolan. He was part of the Carnival PS, and appeared in Caudecus’s story mode, but while he had always been working with Caudecus and seemed to be tied up in shady business, I never quite got the read that he was truly evil, or at least had more plausible deniability than Caudecus ever had. Now we find this letter in Caudecus’s manor that made it pretty clear that he’s a Separatist, or at least anti-charr. Did anyone else get a different read on our favourite human inventory/plagurist? Also, whatever happened to him after Caudecus’s story mode? Could he be tied to the White Mantle somehow, or return later with new mechanical monstrosities for us?

The story mode of the original CM dungeon kinda hinted at the Separatist connection already- he complains about the Queen working with the charr, and NPCs mention that he’s been seen in Ebonhawke and with the Separatist captain who was the final boss.

It also tied up his fate- we catch him pounding on a false wall in the basement and asking his conspirator buddies to let him in, and we watch them kill him. Outlived his usefulness, I suppose.

Oh, he died during the story part? I didn’t remember that. I’m going to have to go through that again and pay closer attention. Maybe I’ll use my warrior so that I’m closer to the front lines…

It’s not merely “hinted at”, it’s practically outright stated he’s a Separatist – and was 100% in on the plot to kill the Queen:

Logan Thackeray: Uzolan! I must speak to you of a threat to the Queen!
Uzolan: Threat to the Queen? Then you know about our plot!
Uzolan: We will not be stopped! Golem! Initiate plan Alpha!
Monique DeLana: Uzolan, you idiot! This is too soon!

He outright claims he’s part of the plot to kill the Queen, and DeLana yells at him for triggering it too soon. Then when you catch up with him:

Uzolan: Quickly, you fools! My plan has been revealed!
Uzolan: You have the queen and the others! Now save me!

Where he is subsequently killed by his fellow separatists (note: Monique DeLana is Captain DeLana, the end boss of the dungeon).

He gets killed before you can actually reach him, though.

The only new things from the letters and the final story step is the Carnival Workers being confirmed Separatists – the Ringmaster was obviously not Krytan, but it wasn’t clear if he was Ascalonian or from some other place (like it’s hinted Preceptor Doern Velazquez is) – as well as Caudecus’ even implied involvement with the Orphan storyline plot. Everything else was just re-affirmation or confirmation of implication.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

We know he was in on the plot to kill the Queen, but so was Caudecus. That doesn’t make them Separatists. From how quickly they killed Uzolan, actually, I was left with the impression that they didn’t consider him one of their own.

Talking about the other place from where Velazquez was born, I begin to wonder if it wasn’t some hidden White Mantle nation, from the north-west of Kryta-North of the Jungle. Those guys have an incredibly high number of soldiers, especially for a faction split down between Caudecus and Lazarus, and I can’t see them all being from Kryta or Ascalon, because the bandits weren’t mostly Mantles and they, like the Separatists, have been trimmed down for years now.

Unlikely. The White Mantle called the nation they sought to create ‘New Kryta’ and it seemed to be a part of their identity that they considered themselves to be the real Kryta. I don’t think a New Krytan would make the slip Doern does.

But they did (or does) have towns and bastions outside of the known maps ? If they are New Kryta they have to have some secret bases to raise their army, right ?

Uzolan was more of an associate of the Separatists.

He’s primarily bandit related, and seemed to borrow Inquest ‘inventions’ or thefts.

Not just outside the known maps: Fort Vandal, the Silverwastes forts, Bloodstone Fen, Stronghold of the Faithful, even Prosperity might technically count. All destroyed now. They might have more further north.

Prosperity wasn’t a White Mantle stronghold, I think. It was a remote city and had citizens who were less than scrupulous, but I don’t think they were necessarily tied to the Mantle. Then again, that one guy who got strangled did have a Caudecus-style beard…

Not directly, but it was obviously paying tribute to the bandits, if not the White Mantle directly. They probably wouldn’t have considered themselves to be part of New Kryta, but the White Mantle probably considered it part of their territory… up until Mordremoth trashed all their southern holdings.
