…is written in new krytan. Is that simply a mistake by arena net since new krytan got invented way later than the tablet was written.

Likely not a mistake. More likely it was just displayed as New Krytan as that was the alphabet they had on hand. It gives it easter egg value as it can be translated by players, which is more fun than just making it out of jibberish symbols, and saves the hassel of creating a whole new alphabet and seeding it into the world to write something that will receive little more than a glance to 99% of players.

good catch though

Well, they did have an old krytan alphabet to go off of, if they had wanted to.

seems kind of like an oversight, the Seperatist posters in Ebonhawk are written old Krytan.

New Krytan was established in 1105 AE. Ventari died in 1180 AE. He carved the tablet on his deathbed.

Given Ventari wanted people to be able to read it, I think he would have gone with a universal alphabet that existed for 75 years already, rather than using whatever alphabet centaurs use.

You mean in Ascalonian.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

Yeah, the Seperatist posters are old Ascalonian, there was a differentiation in the human written languages between Ascalonian and Krytan in the old days. There may have been Orrian text as well, but sadly we never had access to this back in the day.

Don’t be too sure of that. There’s runes on the Risen Wraith’s cloaks and we were told that there’s a fifth translatable language that was introduced in GW2 (the other four being Ascalonian, Old Canthan, Asuran script, and New Krytan).

Just because no one has seen Orrian script – or rather, tried translating it – yet doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Oop! My bad, i knew that. >.> And given the dates posted i suppose it does make sense that it would be written in New Krytan.

Well that’s what I was saying, it may exist, we just don’t have any access to it yet, with few exceptions. Guild Wars 1 had very few instances where it may have been possible to see something of Orrian text, Gates of Kryta mission where you pick up Orrian manuscript, but we never physically see it. I would love to learn more about written ancient languages. I know that I’ve heard there is also old Asuran, and I would be interested to see if there was any Charr written language (besides coded text in Eye of the North). I would assume much of Norn history and such would have been passed down by speech until more recently. Still it would be an interesting subject to pursue, and also could make an interesting side quest to the idea of creating a library of ancient knowledge. It would be cool if you could find these scripts and you would have to decyfer them or bring them to people who could do it for you.

I could be wrong, but I think Old Ascalonian And New Krytan are the only written languages in the game that can actually be translated. The rest were all just art more or less.

Actually, from what I’ve read, the only text in the game that cannot be translated (that I know of) is the text running down the draperies in the holdings of Chokhin and the pillars in the library within the Realm of Torment.
