Is there any ingame explanation to why the floor of Verdant Brink is completely covered in vines?

The only other place i can think of that has those same vines is Spirit Vale, which is connected directly to VB.

Is it just a ingame mechanic they wanted to have on all maps, but abandoned after VB?

I think its a (well done) attention to detail thing to show how the Pact fleet was pulled down. (basically a origin of all those vines up above)

The real fun part is when the vines all die off and Verdant brink’s land and wreckage held in the air comes crashing down.

I think it’s pretty much this. From what we’ve heard about Mordremoth and how he spreads, I suspect that vine layer is under every map, except Tangled Depths- but in Verdant Brink it had to break out through the surface to take the fleet, leaving it exposed.

Pretty much my interpretation too – that those are the vines being spread across Tyria, the vines that dig underground to reach as far as the Iron Marches, and we only see them because Mordremoth tore the landscape asunder to bring down the Pact Fleet.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
