Or was she just the perfect subject for Mordy to take over?

She quickly strayed from the pale tree, not gaining further protection from the Ventari’s tablet. They’ve said the farther you are from it; the weaker it gets and the stronger Mordy’s call is. Perhaps what she saw that was left unseen wasn’t the universe’s secrets but something that allowed Mordremoth to get a grasp on her.

When you see the cutscene with her lying on the floor, dead. . . there is something that looks like “decay” all over her face. Could this of been plant growth instead?

I find that the ending of ls1 was left very unsettling because it would finally be resolved in ls3. Why did she do this? She doesn’t get to answer. But maybe we’ll finally find her answers while we play ls3.

What do you all think?

(Pardon if I am not very accurate. I am catching up still playing ls2)

First off, HoT isn’t LS3. LS3 will come after HoT.

Secondly, it’s not the Ventari’s tablet that offers protection, but the Dream – and Nightmare.

But as shown in S2’s first episode, if you interact with her holorecording in her lab that’s found, she changes drastically at the point of entering the machine. Combined with Season 1’s “A Study in Scarlet”, this also marks when she begins hearing things and having weird dreams – Mordremoth’s control began with the machine, but was slow and steady.

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

As someone who has studied extensively on Scarlet Briar, I will choose to weigh in.
Scarlet has heard voices since she left the Dream. She went to menders who could not help her in any way, she was terrified to the point of being afraid to sleep.
There is NO confirmation that Mordremoth was the one talking to her, nor is there any indication that Scarlet knew of his presence. All she knew was that there was something in her head that wouldn’t leave her alone.
When she chose to partake in Omadd’s study and used his mind delving machine, she claimed she saw everything. She said “I saw it. I saw it all.”, claiming she saw the very heart of the Eternal Alchemy. She also saw something else in there, and it stared right back at her. Without knowing what this was, one can’t say that what she saw was Mordremoth nor herself. There are multiple theories as to what she saw extactly, but whatever it was, that was the moment she broke. The Pale Tree tried to protect Ceara from seeking the answers the thirst for, but when she chose to look past that veil, her mind literally killed Ceara. Scarlet emerged from the machine because of what she saw. She saw the Eternal Alchemy, she knew how everything worked now. She had this maddening obsession that she couldn’t explain.
Back when Scarlet was attacking Lion’s Arch and you boarded the Breachmaker, Scarlet has a dialog when she’s pacing back and forth at the control panel, “No! This is my idea! Not yours! Get out of my head! 3.14159, yes, lovely”.
As I said, there is no direct confirmation that Modremoth had anything to do with it.

Personally, crazy walks a very fine line. Ceara was an amazing prodigy for a sylvari, with the curiosity of an asura progeny. She had little interest in her connection with the Pale Tree due to the fact that she believed that she was in control of her own fate and destiny, not the Mother. She was going to do whatever it took to deter from the average life of her brothers and sisters, all she had to do was create her own rules. This, I do believe, left her vulnerable to a thing such as Mordremoth’s corruption. While she was in Omadd’s machine, the Pale Tree pleaded with Ceara not to go further. And Ceara actually hesitated, however Mother stating how dangerous the territory Ceara was in only made the young child hunger for answers all the more. Ceara was metaphorically killed inside that machine and Scarlet Briar emerged. Sadly I feel that a lot of things such as what is being discussed here will be forever left to conjecture.

Scarlet has heard voices since she left the Dream. She went to menders who could not help her in any way, she was terrified to the point of being afraid to sleep.

You got this from her journal, however it’s dated 1320-1322. This was well after she left the Grove, and denotes the beginning of hearing voices. So it was not “since she left the Dream.”

There is NO confirmation that Mordremoth was the one talking to her, nor is there any indication that Scarlet knew of his presence. All she knew was that there was something in her head that wouldn’t leave her alone.

I’m going to disagree with this. Scarlet very much knew of Mordremoth and his presence. The situation about Wynne was, going off of dialogue in Twilight Aetherpath, the secret that Scarlet had discovered about Caithe. This likely means she knew the origins of the sylvari as well.

She was also very aware that the voices were not her own in any way. Her journals during A Study In Scarlet show this point blank. And while not explicitly stated, it’s beyond heavily implied the voices are Mordremoth – in the HoT beta for example, Scarlet is directly applied to having been corrupted by Mordremoth.

What we see when we enter the machine in Season 2 is said to be a copy of what Scarlet saw – not a complete one, mind you, given that Scarlet was in the machine for days, but even at the beginning we hear the argument between the Pale Tree and Scarlet, and the PC tells Rox afterwards that they saw a dragon – and the dragon looked back.

She saw the Eternal Alchemy, she knew how everything worked now.

She saw what she thought was the Eternal Alchemy. But all she saw was The All.

The All is the inner workings of Tyria (world). The Eternal Alchemy is the inner and outer workings of all things (the multiverse). Two very different things.

However, this matches 100% with how Mordremoth goes after sylvari.

The Elder Dragon can implant thoughts in its creations—thoughts they may even believe to be their own

Scarlet had thoughts implanted in her, and thought they were her own.

Kasmeer Meade: The legacy of a lunatics.
Marjory Delaqua: Calling her crazy diffuses the blame. This isn’t madness; this is evil. Straight black. Blacker than a moonless night.

The characters of that world dont care and in the end it doesn’t matter . To diagnose her is something exceedingly difficult as she is sylvari. Are the soundless crazy? It is also difficult because you are speaking to the internet, what are the chances you think you will get an accurate diagnosis based on extensive evidence, that also eliminates comorbity (diseases can have similar symptoms using one label to describe two different things is a common error in diagnosing something.

Even with a semi tangible diagnoses it gives very little predictive power. We completely lack the ability of doctors to test their patients in order to determine severity.
