Watchknights in Crown Pavilion
It could be any number of those options. I’d say your best bet is to wait until the next update and see if the watchknights don’t change because of what occurs.
So we know that the Watchknights, using mesmer magic, are impersonating Humanities enemies.
But sometimes after killing them while transformed, you get to fight them as normal Watchknights.
So the question is, (through the lore perspective) is it intended that the “heroes” fight them as watchknights, or is it because they are malfunctioning due to the mysterious figure and are still fighting even though they were defeated while transformed.
I thought once defeated while transformed, they would just die. (as seen in the ANet livestream preview)
… or is it just a bug that they fight as watchknights.
I doubt it’s a bug but it still a possibility. It could be because the mysterious figure has tampered with them that some of them don’t simply shut down. Or it could be that the extensive damage of the horde of players causes them to malfunction anyways. Since they clockwork and not magitech there more room for malfunction to be caused from use than from tampering.
Chaos always finds a way, who you think Evil learned it from?
i think the mesmer magic is just a visual flair added to it, going by the story instance. we’re supposed to be fighting them for entertainment.
I thought we were fighting them as entertainment, and to show off their abilities as future defenders of Kryta.
I’ve been wondering about the ones that change back into watch knights as well. I don’t think it’s a game bug because it’d be far easier for the developers to just put existing enemies into the Pavilion and tell us that in lore they’re all watch knights than to make them actually watch knights which are programmed to use the art, animations and abilities of existing enemies and since the end result would be the same there’s no reason to put all that extra coding in.
So IMO the fact that some of them turn back into watch knights must be deliberate. Especially since it’s accompanied by the mesmers butterfly effect.
My guess is it’s supposed to be that some of them aren’t functioning properly – instead of just dying they ‘reset’, they turn back into watch knights and carry on fighting. Whether it’s because of something Scarlet did or because nothing mechanical (and very little magical) works perfectly 100% of the time I’m not sure.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
From my observations – the watchknights don’t die only in zergs. So it’s likely intentional mechanics to make the content slightly tougher for zerging.
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.
I’m pretty sure this is all intended. If you want an explanation, perhaps the characters see through the illusion of the watchknight only when the creature has apparently taken enough wounds to die, but hasn’t. At this time the watchknight is revealed but still fighting in its role and the characters can finish it off knowing it is a watchknight.
